Product description
This is a ready-made set: a brown glass bottle with a flat top and a nominal volume of 100 ml and a black plastic dispenser pump with a smoke-coloured cap. Brown glass protects the contents from light, which is especially important for vegetable oils, serums with antioxidants and preparations containing UV-sensitive ingredients. The dispenser delivers a small measured dose with each press, so the contents do not need to be poured out or scooped with fingers, and air and contaminants do not enter the bottle as easily during use as they would with an open neck.
The set is intended for cosmetic preparations of liquid to medium-thick consistency: facial serums, oil blends, lotions, light emulsions, liquid cleansers and massage oils. The 100 ml volume corresponds to standard skincare packaging and is also practical for smaller batches or test runs.
Key features of the set
- Light protection – brown glass filters part of the light spectrum, slowing the degradation of sensitive ingredients. For oils, vitamin serums and natural extracts it is a more practical choice than clear glass.
- Hygienic dispensing – the contents are dispensed by pressing the pump rather than by finger contact or pouring, which helps keep the preparation clean throughout its use.
- Controlled consumption – a measured dose makes application easier and prevents overuse of concentrated products such as oil serums.
- Glass without interaction with contents – glass does not react with oils, alcohol or most active ingredients, making it suitable even for preparations where plastic bottles are not appropriate.
- Reusable – the bottle can be washed, disinfected and refilled. The dispenser can be reused after rinsing, provided it is not clogged.
- Smoke-coloured cap – the dark transparent cap protects the dispenser head from dust and accidental pressing during transport or storage.
Suitable for products such as
Water-based and oil-based facial serums, dry and massage oils, face and body lotions, light emulsions, liquid cleansing gels and soaps, toning preparations with lower viscosity and oil blends with essential oils for aromatherapy use. For each of these types, the dispenser always delivers approximately the same amount and the contents remain protected from light.
Less suitable are thick creams, butters and balms, which the small-dose dispenser cannot reliably draw up. For these, jars or bottles with a dispenser designed for thick products are more appropriate.
Nominal volume and total volume
Nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is designed to hold under normal filling conditions. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them is the allowance for the dispenser and its dip tube, which displaces some volume when fitted, as well as space for the contents to expand when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The precise values of both volumes are stated in the product specifications.
When filling, bear in mind that the dip tube and dispenser head occupy some space once fitted. If you fill the bottle right up to the neck, the contents will be pushed out when the dispenser is screwed on and will contaminate the thread.
Working with the dispenser
The dispenser delivers approximately 0.2 ml of product per press. This corresponds to a typical dose of serum or facial oil; for body lotions, multiple presses are needed. After fitting for the first time, the dispenser needs to be pressed several times without result until the tube fills and the product starts to come out. This is normal behaviour for all dispensers of this type.
The reliability of dispensing depends on the viscosity of the preparation. Liquid and medium-thick products flow through without issue; with thicker emulsions the dose decreases or the dispenser fails to draw up any product at all. Preparations containing particles, such as scrubs or blends with undissolved pigments, can clog the dispenser.
Before producing a larger batch, we recommend fitting the dispenser onto a test bottle with the finished formulation and verifying that it draws up correctly, delivers a consistent dose and that the head does not dry out after a few days. For oil blends with a high proportion of essential oils or preparations with a higher alcohol content, also check the behaviour of the plastic parts of the dispenser.
What is good to know
- Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle, disinfect it and allow it to dry completely. Rinse the dispenser and leave it to dry with the head pressed down so that no water remains in the tube. A detailed procedure is in the frequently asked questions below.
- Glass and heat – do not fill the glass bottle with hot emulsions straight from emulsification. A sudden change in temperature can damage the glass and the hot contents, as they cool, will create a vacuum that makes it harder for the dispenser to draw up the product. Allow the preparation to cool to room temperature.
- Dispenser material – the dispenser is made of plastic. With preparations containing a high proportion of essential oils, citrus extracts or solvents, the seals may change their properties over time or the head may seize up. Compatibility with the specific formulation should be verified.
- Contact with cosmetics and food – the glass bottle has a separate declaration of suitability for contact with cosmetic products and for direct contact with food. The dispenser does not have such a declaration, so the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food and suitability for cosmetics applies to the bottle. The set is intended for cosmetics. If you need a bottle for food use, choose a standalone bottle with a suitable closure.
- Labelling – the flat top and cylindrical shape of the bottle make it easy to apply a label without creases.
- Other closures – the bottle has a neck with a 24/410 thread. Closures with the same thread type and other ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. With your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dosing and behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.
- Recycling – glass goes into glass waste; the dispenser is plastic and should be separated from the bottle before recycling.
