Product description

This amber glass bottle with a capacity of 100 ml and an aluminium cap protects the contents from light and closes with a single thread, with no additional parts. It is suitable for facial and body oils, oil serums, toners, tinctures or concentrates that are dispensed by pouring and do not need a dropper or a pump. The complete set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

Dark glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, which helps with products sensitive to oxidation, for example vegetable oils with a higher proportion of unsaturated fatty acids or preparations containing essential oils. The straight top of the neck makes filling with a funnel or syringe easier. The silver surface of the cap matches the glass, so the packaging looks uniform even without a plastic closure.

Bottle and cap as a whole

  • 24/410 neck finish – the same neck type on the bottle and the cap, so the set seals without any adapter or transition piece.
  • Aluminium cap with liner – inside, it has a foam polyethylene (EPE) sealing liner that sits on the neck of the bottle and seals in the contents.
  • Amber glass – the contents are only partly visible, so check the level by holding the bottle against the light.
  • Dispensing by pouring – the contents are dispensed by tilting the bottle. With thicker oils and serums, it is more precise to pour the required amount into your palm or into a smaller container.

What it is suitable for

This set is most often filled with oil-based products: massage and body oils, facial oils, herbal oil macerates or macerated oils. Dark glass slows their yellowing and changes in fragrance caused by light. It also works for toners, hydrolates and facial waters applied with a cotton pad, and for tinctures or alcohol extracts, where alcohol-resistant glass is valued. It can also be used as a stock bottle for raw materials, from which you decant into smaller containers with a dropper or sprayer.

The 24 mm neck is not suitable for creams and thick emulsions, as the contents would be difficult to get out of the bottle. For such textures, we recommend a jar or a bottle with a pump.

Volume and filling

The nominal volume of 100 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for with normal filling. The brimful capacity given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the top of the neck. The difference between them forms a reserve for the cap liner and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature.

Fill the bottle up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the neck is full, the contents are pushed onto the thread when you screw on the cap, and the cap then seals less well.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the neck or in the cap liner would get into an anhydrous oil. Do not pour hot mixtures into cold glass, as a sudden change in temperature puts stress on the glass. Let the product cool to at least room temperature and only then fill.

Tighten the aluminium cap by hand with moderate force. Overtightening compresses the liner, and it may seal less well the next time you open the bottle. For contents with a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking how the cap liner behaves with your specific formulation, for example with a one-week test in a filled bottle lying on its side.

Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The silver aluminium cap does not have this certificate, so the set as a whole is not intended for food and is used for cosmetic products.

You will find closures with a 24/410 neck finish and ready-made combinations of a bottle with a dropper, sprayer or pump in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

After washing, the bottle can be reused. At the end of its life, the glass goes in the glass recycling and the aluminium cap, once unscrewed, in the metal recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 100 ml amber glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents. This helps with vegetable oils, oil macerates and preparations containing essential oils, which oxidise faster in light and change colour and fragrance. Glass does not provide complete protection from light, so it is best to store the bottle away from direct sunlight and at normal temperature.
Is the glass bottle with an aluminium cap suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not declared for contact with food. Only the 100 ml glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the silver 24/410 aluminium cap does not have it. The set is therefore intended for cosmetic products, for which both components have a declaration.
Why is the 100 ml glass bottle not filled to the brim?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 100 ml, not to the neck. The brimful capacity is larger, and the difference serves as a reserve for the cap liner and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. If you fill to the brim, the contents get onto the thread, the cap seals less well and the bottle may leak when opened.
Is the bottle with an aluminium cap suitable for oils, toners and alcohol tinctures?
Yes, the glass is resistant to oils, water and alcohol, so it can handle all three types of contents. For tinctures and preparations with a high proportion of essential oils, we recommend checking how the sealing liner of the cap behaves, for example with a short test of a filled bottle lying on its side. Water-based contents such as toners and hydrolates require preservation regardless of the packaging.
How do I clean the 100 ml glass bottle, and can it be reused?
Yes, the bottle can be reused after thorough washing. Wash it with warm water and washing-up liquid, rinse it, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely with the neck facing down. Treat the cap in the same way, and make sure the liner is dry before the next filling. Glass does not retain residual fragrance from essential oils, but the cap liner may.
Which other closure fits a glass bottle with a 24/410 neck finish?
Any closure with a 24/410 neck finish fits the bottle, for example a dropper, a mini trigger sprayer or a pump with this type of neck. You will find ready-made combinations of a bottle with a closure in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation, as the length of the dip tube and the seal differ between closures.
