Product description

This amber glass bottle with a volume of 100 ml and a matte white cap is designed for liquid cosmetic products that need to be protected from light. Amber glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, so it is well suited for storing facial and massage oils, serums, tinctures, hydrolates or toners. The bottle has a straight top, and the cap is made of polypropylene (PP) with a matte white finish.

The set is supplied as a ready-made pair: the closure sits on the bottle neck, so there is no need to look for it separately. Both the bottle and the cap are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and the declarations of conformity are provided with the product.

What the set is suitable for

  • Facial and body oils – glass does not absorb the oil or transfer any foreign scent to it, and the amber colour slows down changes in the contents caused by light.
  • Serums and liquid concentrates – a volume of 100 ml is enough for a smaller batch that is used up before the sensitive ingredients start to change.
  • Tinctures and alcohol-based preparations – glass resists alcohol and higher concentrations of essential oils; with a plastic cap, we recommend checking the seal with your specific formulation.
  • Hydrolates and toners – with a screw cap, the contents are dispensed by pouring, for example onto a cotton pad or into the palm of your hand.
  • Test batches and samples – the smaller volume allows you to try out a recipe before filling it into larger packaging.

Nominal volume and filling

The nominal volume of 100 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck opening. The difference between them is a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

When filling, leave free space in the neck. Contents poured up to the brim are pushed onto the thread when the cap is screwed on, and the cap then seals less well.

Preparation and reuse

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the neck would dilute anhydrous products and increases the risk of contamination in water-based formulations. Glass withstands repeated washing and disinfection without any change in its properties, so the bottle is also suitable for repeated use. Before each refill, check the cap for cracks and make sure the thread is not deformed.

Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes well. Do not pour a hot phase into a cold bottle; let the contents cool to at least lukewarm first.

Good to know

Closures with the same neck type as stated in the parameters fit the bottle. Ready-made packaging + closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you choose your own combination, we recommend checking the seal, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food. The cap does not have such a declaration, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

After use, the bottle is sorted as glass and the cap as plastic.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 100 ml amber glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces the transmission of light and thus slows down the changes in the contents that light triggers. For oils prone to oxidation, essential oils or serums with sensitive active ingredients, it is therefore more suitable than clear glass. The packaging does not guarantee complete darkness, so it is still advisable to store the bottle out of direct sunlight.
How much does a 100 ml bottle actually hold?
The bottle is designed for 100 ml of contents, which is its nominal volume. Up to the brim it holds slightly more; the exact value is given in the parameters. This difference serves as a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes, which is why the bottle is filled to the nominal volume.
Is the set of a glass bottle with a matte white cap suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products. Only the glass bottle on its own has a declaration of suitability for direct contact with food; the plastic cap does not have such a declaration. For food use, the bottle needs to be combined with a closure that has its own food-contact declaration.
Can the glass bottle with a cap be reused?
Yes, after washing and disinfection with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, the bottle can be filled again. Glass does not change its properties during repeated cleaning and does not retain the scent of its previous contents. Before further use, check the cap for a damaged thread and replace it with a new one if in doubt.
Is a bottle with a straight top suitable for essential oils and tinctures?
Yes, glass resists alcohol and concentrated essential oils, and the amber colour protects sensitive ingredients from light. The cap is made of polypropylene; for contents with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking the seal during longer contact with the contents, for example when the bottle lies on its side during transport.
Do other closures fit the 24 mm glass bottle?
Yes, the bottle has a 24/410 neck finish and can be combined with closures of the same neck type from the Handymade range. When replacing the cap with a dropper, pump or sprayer, check the seal and the dispensing with your specific formulation, because each closure has a different inner part and requires a different reserve in the neck.
