Product description
The 250 ml amber glass bottle is supplied together with a black pump, so all you need to do is wash it, fill it and screw it on. Amber glass reduces the amount of light that reaches the contents and protects products containing vegetable oils, vitamins or essential oils from faster ageing. The pump with a smooth collar dispenses the contents without unscrewing, so the set is particularly suitable for liquid soaps, shampoos, shower gels, body lotions and facial or massage oils that are used daily and dispensed with one hand.
The flat shape of the bottle stands firmly on a shelf or on the edge of a sink and sits well in the hand. The set as a whole is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.
What the set includes
- Glass medical flat bottle, PP28S, 250 ml – amber glass, neck with PP28S thread. The designation “medical” is the name of the bottle shape and says nothing about the contents.
- Plastic pump, black, 28/410 – a polypropylene pump with a smooth black collar and a dip tube that draws the contents from the bottom. One press dispenses approximately 1 ml.
The threads of the two parts match, so you do not have to put the set together yourself. You can find other closures with the same neck type, as well as further ready-made bottle and closure combinations, in the Handymade range. If you combine parts yourself, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
What it is suitable for
The pump works best with contents of liquid to medium-thick consistency. These include liquid soaps and syndet washing gels, shampoos and conditioners with lower viscosity, body and facial lotions, light emulsions, cleansing oils and massage oils. Oil blends and products with light-sensitive active ingredients benefit most from amber glass.
The pump may not draw up thick creams, body butters or high-viscosity gels, or may dispense them unevenly. For such products, we recommend testing the dispensing on a small sample before you fill the whole batch.
Water-based, oil-based and alcohol-based products can be safely filled into amber glass, as the glass does not react with them. For the plastic pump, we recommend checking its behaviour with contents rich in essential oils, solvents or a higher proportion of alcohol. Plastic may change colour or flexibility over time with such ingredients.
Filling and volume
The nominal volume of 250 ml is the volume the bottle is intended for in normal filling. The brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them forms a reserve for the pump’s dip tube, for the air above the surface and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Therefore, fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. A product filled up to the neck would overflow when the pump is screwed on and contaminate the thread, which would then seal less well.
Before the first filling, check that the pump’s dip tube reaches the bottom of the bottle. If it is longer and bends, it can be shortened with a sharp knife so that it just touches the bottom. This way the pump draws out the contents right to the end.
Good to know
Before first use, wash the bottle in warm water with washing-up liquid, rinse it and disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Leave it to dry completely upside down, as residual moisture would dilute the contents and increase the demands on preservation. It is enough to rinse the pump with water and disinfectant and leave it to air-dry; do not take the assembled pump apart.
Glass withstands repeated washing and higher temperatures, so the bottle can be used again and again. Beware of sudden temperature changes: do not pour a hot emulsion straight from the pan into cold glass, but let it cool first. When switching to a different product, rinse the pump thoroughly so that residues of the old contents do not mix with the new. If the seal or flexibility deteriorates after prolonged use, replace the pump with a new one with the same thread.
The bottle has a certificate for direct contact with food, but the pump does not. Do not therefore use the set as a whole for home-made oils, syrups or other food. It is intended for cosmetics.
At the end of its life, amber glass belongs in the glass recycling container. The pump is made of polypropylene and is sorted with plastics; unscrew it from the bottle before disposal.
