Product description

This amber PET bottle with a 24/410 neck finish and a white and gold matte pump is intended for filling liquid and medium-thick cosmetic products that are dispensed by pressing. The 100 ml volume suits facial lotions, light creams, serums, cleansing gels, shampoos and shower gels in travel or trial sizes. The set is supplied as a ready-made bottle and pump pair. The threads match, so there is no need to choose a separate closure to get a tight seal.

The amber tint of the bottle filters light, which helps with contents containing vegetable oils, essential oils or active ingredients sensitive to oxidation. PET is lightweight and does not break when dropped, so the bottle is suitable for the bathroom, for travel and for selling products shipped by post. Both the bottle and the pump are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The set is not approved for contact with food, so it is not suitable for homemade oils or syrups.

What the set is suitable for

Face and body lotions – a liquid emulsion passes through the pump easily and one dose corresponds to the amount needed for the face or hands.
Light creams and serums – the pump limits contact between the contents and your fingers, which you will appreciate with formulations containing a lower level of preservative.
Cleansing gels, shampoos and shower gels – 100 ml is enough for samples, a travel pack or testing a new recipe with customers.
Face and massage oils – the pump dispenses a measured amount and the bottle does not have to be tilted during application.
Liquid soap in a small pack – for example for travel or as a gift pack to go with a larger product.

Dispensing and filling

On a full press the pump dispenses approximately 1.3 ml of product. You can take this into account when writing the instructions for use: for a face lotion roughly one press, for a body lotion two to three. The thickness of the contents determines whether the pump draws reliably. Liquid to creamy emulsions work without difficulty. Thick creams, butters and balms cannot be dispensed with a pump, so a jar or a tube is the right choice for them.

The pump dip tube is supplied longer than the bottle itself. Before the first assembly it is shortened so that it ends just above the bottom. A shorter tube leaves a residue at the bottom, while one that is too long bends and the suction fails.

The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 100 ml, not to the brim. The total brimful volume is larger and the difference forms a reserve for the dip tube and the pump body, which take up part of the space in the neck once screwed on. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents are pushed out through the thread when closing.

Cleaning and compatibility

Before the first filling, the bottle and the pump are rinsed, disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and left to dry completely. For the pump, the disinfectant is pumped through the mechanism with several presses and then clean water is pumped through in the same way. The same procedure applies when reusing the bottle, otherwise residues of the previous product in the dip tube will mix with the new contents.

PET withstands common cosmetic emulsions, oils and aqueous solutions. For contents with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend checking in advance how the bottle behaves with the specific formulation, as the plastic may soften or turn cloudy.

Hot products are not filled into a PET bottle. The emulsion is left to cool to room temperature before filling, as at higher temperatures the bottle deforms.

Once emptied and rinsed, the PET bottle is sorted as plastic. The pump combines plastic, metal and glass parts, so it is separated from the bottle and recycled separately according to local options. Frequently asked questions

Is the 100 ml amber PET bottle with a pump suitable for thick creams?

No, the pump is intended for liquid to creamy products that it can draw up through the dip tube. Thick creams, body butters and balms will jam in the mechanism or will not come out at all. For such formulations, a jar is the better choice, or the recipe can be adjusted to a more liquid emulsion that will pass through the pump.

Does the amber PET bottle protect the contents from light?

Partly. The amber tint of the PET filters the light passing through the bottle wall and so slows the oxidation of vegetable oils or sensitive active ingredients. It does not provide complete protection, so even an amber bottle should be stored out of direct sunlight. For contents that are very sensitive to light, we recommend verifying stability in this packaging.

How many doses does the pump dispense from a 100 ml bottle?

One dose is approximately 1.3 ml, so around 75 doses can be dispensed from a full bottle. The actual number depends on the thickness of the product and on whether the pump is pressed fully. The pump cannot draw up the residue below the end of the dip tube, which is why the tube is shortened down to the bottom during assembly.

Can the amber PET bottle with a pump be reused?

Yes, both the bottle and the pump can be refilled after thorough cleaning. The pump is taken apart, the dip tube and the mechanism are flushed through with warm water and disinfectant, and then left to dry. If residues of the old product remain inside, they spoil the new filling and can promote the growth of microorganisms in it.

Can I fill a product containing essential oils or alcohol into a PET bottle with a pump?

PET usually tolerates common cosmetic concentrations of essential oils, but with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents the plastic may turn cloudy or soften. We recommend checking how the bottle behaves with your specific formulation in a smaller quantity before filling the whole batch. Pure essential oils and concentrates belong in glass.
