Product description
A brown glass bottle with a capacity of 150 ml and a black cap is a complete packaging solution for oils, serums and tonics whose ingredients quickly lose their efficacy when exposed to light. Brown glass protects the contents from light, making this set suitable for plant and massage oils, oil serums, facial tonics, hydrolates or liquid concentrates for dilution. The cap seals the bottle tightly and is intended for preparations that are poured or measured, not dispensed drop by drop.
The complete set is declared as a whole as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The glass bottle itself also holds a separate certificate for direct contact with food. The black cap does not have this certification, so the complete set in this configuration is intended for cosmetics.
Key benefits
- Light protection – brown glass filters out a large portion of light that accelerates the oxidation of oils and the degradation of sensitive active ingredients. Oils rich in unsaturated fatty acids and formulations with vitamins or essential oils will thus retain their scent and efficacy for longer.
- Chemically inert material – glass does not react with the contents, does not release any components into it and does not absorb odours. It is therefore also suitable for alcoholic and oily contents, which can attack some plastics.
- Practical volume – 150 ml is a standard size for body and massage oils, tonics or a larger serum packaging. The bottle is also sufficiently stable not to tip over during normal use.
- Simple closure – the tall black cap is easy to grip and can be tightened comfortably. The black colour visually matches the brown glass.
- Reusable – after washing and disinfection, the glass bottle can withstand multiple fills, which is appreciated in small batches and home production.
Use in formulation and filling
The complete set is intended for liquid and thin preparations that are dispensed by pouring into the palm or a measuring cup. Thicker emulsions and creams are difficult to pour from the narrow neck of the bottle and are better suited to a jar or a pump bottle.
When filling, it is important to distinguish between the nominal and total volume. The nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is intended under normal filling. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes; both values are listed in the parameters. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle will overflow when closing, the contents will get into the thread and compromise the seal.
Fill oils and alcoholic solutions at room temperature. Warm contents will contract upon cooling and leave an air gap in the bottle; cold contents, on the other hand, expand when warmed and put pressure on the cap.
Before the first fill, wash, rinse and disinfect both the bottle and cap with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water in an oil preparation promotes the growth of microorganisms and has no place in an anhydrous formulation.
Suitable for products such as
- Plant and massage oils – the narrow neck allows controlled pouring without spillage.
- Oil serums and essential oil blends for dilution – protected from light, without interaction with the packaging material.
- Facial tonics and hydrolates – aqueous preparations with a preservative, applied with a cotton pad or into the palm.
- Alcoholic tinctures and extracts – glass withstands ethanol without any change in properties; the cap seals to prevent alcohol from evaporating.
- Cleansing oils and two-phase preparations – shaken before use; the sealed bottle allows this without spillage.
What's worth knowing
Glass is sensitive to sudden temperature changes. Do not fill the bottle with hot contents and do not wash it alternately with cold and hot water, as it could crack. If you are filling with lukewarm contents, allow the bottle to temper to their temperature first.
The black cap is made of polyethylene, which is resistant to most cosmetic preparations. With concentrated essential oils and strong solvents, we recommend verifying the cap's behaviour in a stability test, as some ingredients may soften or discolour plastics over time.
Tighten the cap firmly but without force. An over-tightened thread on plastic deforms and the bottle will then seal worse than with a normal hand-tightened closure.
This complete set is one of the ready-made container + closure combinations in the Handymade range. Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made sets are available in the range. When creating your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing method and container behaviour with the specific formulation.
When disposing of it, separate the glass and the cap.
