Product description

Glass pharmaceutical bottle, 28 mm, white pump, 150 ml

Amber glass pharmaceutical bottle with a volume of 150 ml and a white pump that dispenses the contents directly from the bottle without unscrewing. The set is intended for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products that are used repeatedly every day: body and face lotions, light creams, massage and body oils, cleansing gels, liquid hand soaps and conditioners with lower viscosity. Amber glass reduces the passage of light, so it is well suited for storing formulations with vegetable oils, essential oils or active ingredients that are sensitive to light.

Both the bottle and the pump are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Body and face lotions – the pump always dispenses approximately the same amount, and the contents stay in the closed bottle without coming into contact with fingers.
  • Massage and body oils – one-handed dispensing without the risk of spilling, and the glass does not absorb the scent of the oils.
  • Liquid soaps and cleansing gels – the bottle stands stably on the washbasin or in the bathroom, where the contents are used up within a few weeks.
  • Face serums and light emulsions – if the formulation has a viscosity that the pump can draw up, it is dispensed cleanly and without contact with the contents.

Dispensing and filling

One press of the pump dispenses approximately 1 ml of the contents. The contents are drawn up through a dip tube that reaches the bottom of the bottle, so most of the product can be used up. Thicker creams and balms are difficult or impossible to dispense through the pump, so we recommend testing the finished formulation on one bottle before making a larger batch.

When filling, a distinction is made between the nominal volume and the brimful volume. The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between them is a reserve for the pump dip tube, which displaces part of the volume once the pump is fitted. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the contents will overflow when the pump is fitted.

After filling and screwing on the pump, prime it by pressing it several times until the dip tube fills and the contents begin to flow smoothly. The first doses are often weaker or only air comes out; this is normal behaviour for any new pump.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the dip tube could dilute the first doses or introduce microorganisms into the product. The same procedure applies when reusing the bottle after the contents have been used up.

Glass does not tolerate thermal shock well. Let a hot emulsion cool to at least room temperature before filling, and do not wash the bottle alternately with boiling and cold water. The pump is made of polypropylene. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, solvents or alcohol, we recommend checking that the material does not soften, change colour or start to leak over time.

The bottle has a neck with the thread stated in the parameters. You will find closures with the same neck type, as well as ready-made packaging and closure combinations, in the Handymade range. If you are making your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

The set with the pump as a whole is not approved for contact with food. If you want to use the bottle for homemade oils or syrups, use it on its own with a closure intended for food.

After use, the glass bottle goes into glass recycling, while the plastic pump is removed and goes into plastics recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber glass pharmaceutical bottle with pump protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces the passage of light and thus slows down oxidation of the contents. It is therefore suitable for vegetable oils, massage oils with essential oils and emulsions with light-sensitive active ingredients. However, light is not the only factor; the contents should also be kept away from heat and be properly preserved.
Can a thick cream be dispensed through the pump?
Not reliably. The pump is intended for liquid and semi-liquid contents such as lotions, oils, gels and light emulsions. The dip tube will not draw up a thick cream or balm, or the pump will get stuck. If you are not sure about the viscosity of your formulation, fill one bottle first and test how the pump behaves before preparing the whole batch.
How much does the 150 ml pharmaceutical bottle with pump hold?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 150 ml, not to the brim. The rest of the volume above this level is a reserve for the pump dip tube, which displaces part of the volume once the pump is fitted. If you fill the bottle right up to the neck, the contents will overflow when the pump is screwed on and the neck will be left soiled.
Is the glass bottle and pump set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the pump has no such declaration. The bottle can be used for homemade oils or syrups with a different closure, but do not use the pump for food.
How do I clean the bottle with pump for repeated use?
Wash the bottle and the pump with warm water and washing-up liquid, pump clean water through the pump, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let everything dry completely. The dip tube and the pump mechanism are harder to clean perfectly, so for repeated filling we recommend replacing the pump with a new one after some time.
