Blue Glass Bottle, Black Tamper Evident Safety Cap & Dropper, 5 ml

This blue glass medicine bottle with a dropper insert and a black safety cap stores and dispenses small amounts of liquids drop by drop. The blue glass filters light and helps protect light-sensitive contents, for example essential oils, fragrance compositions, oil serums or herbal extracts. The 5 ml volume is suitable for samples, trial batches, travel packs and for ingredients that are measured out drop by drop.

The set is supplied ready assembled: a glass bottle, a short plastic dropper insert fitted in the neck and a cap that closes the set. What the set is suitable for

• Essential oils and fragrance compositions – dispensing drop by drop makes it easier to add them precisely to formulations, and the dark glass limits exposure to light.
• Samples of serums and facial oils – the small volume suits test packs for customers as well as your own stability tests.
• Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass does not react with alcohol.
• Concentrated active ingredients – for ingredients with a usage rate in tenths of a per cent, drops are easier to count than a volume poured from a larger bottle.

How the dropper insert and cap work

The dropper insert is made of polypropylene and sits directly in the neck of the bottle. When the bottle is tilted or gently shaken, it releases the contents one drop at a time, so the liquid does not spill and the dose can be counted. It works best with thin liquids. Thick oils or viscous serums come out of it slowly, and the bottle has to be tilted or shaken more. For such contents, we recommend testing how the dropper insert behaves with your own formulation first.

The smooth black cap, screwed onto the thread, presses the dropper insert down and seals the set.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is intended for under normal filling. The physical volume of the bottle up to the rim of the neck is slightly larger. The difference provides a reserve for the dropper insert, which takes up part of the space when fitted, and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled up to the nominal volume. If it is overfilled, the contents overflow when the dropper insert is fitted and leave oil on the thread, so the cap does not seal as well.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Residual water in such a small volume compromises anhydrous contents and the stability of oils. The dropper insert and cap are disinfected in the same way, only without high temperatures.

Let hot mixtures cool partly before filling. A sudden difference in temperature between the contents and a cold bottle can damage the glass. The plastic parts of the set are made of polypropylene and polyethylene. For undiluted essential oils and solvents, we recommend checking whether the dropper insert and cap soften or change shape after prolonged contact.

The bottle can be reused, provided it is cleaned thoroughly. The dropper insert is difficult to clean after fragrance oils and residues of the scent remain in it, so we recommend replacing it with a new one when you change the contents. The set is intended for cosmetics. None of its components is declared for contact with food.

After use, the glass belongs in the coloured glass bin, and the dropper insert and cap with the plastics.
