Glass packaging is generally very suitable for formulations with active ingredients, aromatic components and essential oils, because glass is stable and chemically inert. However, when working with concentrated substances, we always recommend verifying the compatibility of the specific formula with the packaging in the form of a trial batch and monitoring the behaviour of the product during storage (colour, odour, clarity, viscosity).

The packaging can be reused if hygiene principles are observed. Before each new filling, the bottle and the cap must be thoroughly cleaned and then disinfected with a suitable alcohol solution, for example with the products IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or Ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based. This will reduce the risk of microbial contamination and undesirable changes in odour or texture during further use. When changing the product type (e.g. from an aromatherapeutic oil to a facial serum), we recommend first testing the packaging, after cleaning and disinfection, with a small amount of the new formulation.

Before filling, we recommend mechanically removing any residues of the previous contents from the packaging, rinsing with a suitable cleaning solution and then thoroughly rinsing with clean water. After drying, disinfect the inner surface and the thread using an alcohol solution such as IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or Ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based. Clean caps and any dosing components gently so as not to damage seals or the mechanism, and always check their functionality before filling the final product.

If you decide not to reuse the packaging, we recommend emptying it as much as possible and removing any remaining contents. The glass part can usually be sorted into the container designated for glass, while the plastic cap is sorted into the container for plastics, unless local sorting rules state otherwise. For specific or strongly aromatic fillings, follow the instructions of the local waste policy and the information about the material listed in the product parameters on the Handymade.sk website, so that recycling is carried out in accordance with the applicable rules.
