Product description

The blue PET bottle with a volume of 250 ml and the black pump with a 24/410 neck finish make a ready-to-use set for liquid and medium-thick products that are dispensed repeatedly and in small amounts. The plastic is light and unbreakable, so the bottle suits the bathroom, the sink or the kitchen, where glass would be a risk. The set as a whole is approved for direct contact with food and declared suitable for cosmetic products. It works equally well for liquid soap, homemade olive oil or syrup.

What the set is suitable for

The pump makes sense wherever the contents are used daily and you do not want to pour them or unscrew a cap. The most common uses:

  • Liquid soaps and shower gels – one press dispenses the amount needed to wash your hands, and the contents stay in the closed bottle and do not drip over the edge.
  • Shampoos and conditioners – with a thinner to medium-thick consistency the pump works smoothly, while very thick conditioners can make pumping harder.
  • Body and face lotions – suitable for thin and medium-thick emulsions. Thick creams do not belong in a pump, and a jar or container will serve better.
  • Massage and body oils – dispensing in small amounts limits spillage and contact of the oil with greasy hands.
  • Food in the kitchen – vegetable oils, syrups, dressings or homemade infusions.

How the pump works

One press releases approximately 1 ml of the contents. This dose suits soaps and gels, and with lotions you press twice. The dip tube reaches all the way to the bottom of the bottle, so almost all of the contents can be used up and only a thin layer remains at the bottom. Before first use, prime the pump by pressing it several times until the dip tube and pump head fill and the product starts to flow evenly.

The pump is screwed onto the bottle neck by hand. During assembly, check that the thread sits straight and that the pump head does not wobble after tightening.

With thicker emulsions, run a test before filling the whole batch. Pour in a small amount, screw on the pump and check that the product comes out smoothly and that the pump head returns to the top by itself after pressing.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume of 250 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total volume to the brim is slightly larger. The difference provides room for the dip tube and the pump body, which push part of the contents upwards when screwed in, and also space for the product to expand when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill only up to the nominal volume. If you filled it up to the neck, the contents would be pushed out when the pump is fitted and the outside of the bottle would be greasy or sticky.

PET does not tolerate high temperatures. Let emulsions, soaps and syrups cool to room temperature before filling, otherwise the bottle wall may deform and the neck will stop sealing.

Good to know

Preparation before first filling. Rinse the bottle and the pump with clean water, rinse the inside of the bottle with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Pump clean water through the pump and then pump it dry several times so that the remainder runs out of the dip tube.

Reuse. Both parts can be washed and refilled. When changing the contents, for example from oil to a water-based gel, rinse the pump with warm water and a small amount of washing-up liquid and pump until clean water runs out. Residues of the previous product in the pump head could cloud the new contents or change their scent.

Material sensitivity. PET and PP tolerate common cosmetic and food contents. With products containing a high proportion of alcohol, undiluted essential oils or solvents, test how the packaging behaves on a smaller amount. Watch whether the wall softens, turns cloudy and whether the pump continues to seal. Do not expose the packaging to aggressive chemicals.

Closures. The bottle has a 24/410 neck and can also be fitted with another closure with the same neck type from the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the sealing, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Recycling. Before disposal, unscrew the pump from the bottle. The bottle is made of PET and the pump of PP, and both parts belong in plastics recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 250 ml plastic bottle with a pump suitable for food?
Yes, the set is approved for direct contact with food. The bottle and the pump each have their own certificate, so it can be used for edible oil, syrup, dressing or herbal infusion. The same packaging therefore serves both in a cosmetics workshop and in the kitchen. With contents that have a high proportion of alcohol or acids, we recommend testing how the packaging behaves on a small amount.
How thick a product can the black 24/410 pump handle?
The pump works with liquid and medium-thick products, that is, soaps, gels, shampoos, lotions and oils. Thick creams, masks and thick honey block or slow down the pumping. With a borderline consistency, run a test before filling the whole batch and watch whether the pump head returns by itself after pressing.
How much does one press of the pump dispense?
One press releases approximately 1 ml of the product. For liquid soap and shower gel this corresponds to one dose per use. With body lotions or oils you increase the dose with another press. The dip tube reaches the bottom of the bottle, so almost all of the contents can be used up.
Can I fill the blue PET bottle with a still warm emulsion or syrup?
No, let the contents cool to room temperature before filling. PET softens at higher temperatures and the bottle wall may deform, which breaks the seal of the neck. This applies to emulsions made by the hot process, soaps diluted with hot water and freshly cooked syrups.
Why is the 250 ml bottle not filled to the brim?
Because the fitted pump, with its dip tube and body, pushes part of the contents upwards, and the product expands when the temperature changes. The nominal volume of 250 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling, and the space above it serves as a reserve. If you filled it up to the neck, the contents would overflow when the pump is screwed on.
