Combining with closures and dispensers

Packaging in which this cotton wick is used are usually open containers or jars without a closure while the candle is burning. However, if you equip the vial, pot or another container with the candle with a lid for storage or sale, it is recommended to choose packaging and closures from the Handymade range. Combinations of packaging and closures that are created directly at Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all combinations we always recommend performing your own compatibility test (sealing, dosing and behaviour of the packaging in contact with the specific formulation).

How to choose the correct length of the cotton wick for a specific packaging?

Adjust the length of the cotton wick to the height and diameter of the container. The wick should be slightly longer when pouring the wax and shortened only after the candle has fully cured to approximately 5–7 mm above the surface. For wider containers we recommend making test candles to verify even melting of the wax and flame stability. Always observe the burning of the first candle in the given packaging type and adjust the wick length as needed.

Is it possible to use the cotton wick repeatedly in the same type of packaging?

The cotton wick is a consumable material, but the packaging – vial, jar or container for the candle – can be used repeatedly if hygiene principles are followed. Before refilling a new candle, it is necessary to remove wax residues and impurities from the container, clean the packaging thoroughly and disinfect it. For disinfection we recommend using the products IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or Ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based, which help ensure a clean surface before the next filling.

How to safely test the behaviour of the wick in a new type of container or wax?

For a new type of container, wax or fragrance, it is always appropriate to prepare several test candles. Observe the first and subsequent burns, especially the flame size, wax melting rate and any smoke formation. After each burn, check the walls of the container to see whether there is excessive wax build-up and gradually adjust the wick length. In this way you will find the optimal wick – container – wax combination for a stable and safe product.

How to properly clean and recycle packaging after the candle has burned out?

After the candle has burned out, let the container cool down completely, remove the metal tab and wick remnants, then mechanically remove the remaining wax. You can reuse the packaging after thorough cleaning and disinfection, or recycle it according to the material specified in the parameters of the specific product on the website. Glass containers are intended for the glass container, plastic packaging for sorted plastic waste and metal tins for the respective metal waste. Always follow local waste sorting rules and the information provided in the product parameter table.
