Product description
Amber glass medicine bottle with dropper insert and tamper-evident cap, 100 ml
The amber glass medicine bottle with a capacity of 100 ml is supplied together with a short plastic dropper insert and a black tamper-evident cap. The set is intended for liquid cosmetic products that are dispensed drop by drop: face and hair oils, oil serums, blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, alcohol extracts and tinctures. Amber glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents and so protects light-sensitive products, for example vegetable oils prone to oxidation. All three parts are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics, so the set can be used without further verification of the materials.
How the set works
The three parts fit together so that the contents are dispensed precisely and the bottle stays tightly closed.
- Medicine bottle – an amber glass bottle with an 18 mm neck, that is, with the thread we use as standard for medicine bottles at Handymade. The glass does not absorb the scent or colour of the contents and can be washed repeatedly.
- Short dropper insert – a plastic insert that is pressed into the neck and narrows the outlet. When the bottle is tilted, the contents come out drop by drop instead of pouring out all at once. The short version reaches only just below the rim of the neck, so it does not take up space inside the bottle.
- Tamper-evident cap – a smooth black cap that is screwed onto the thread above the dropper insert and closes the bottle. The tamper-evident ring breaks when the bottle is opened for the first time, so the customer of the finished product can see that the packaging has not been opened before.
What it is suitable for
The dropper insert works best with liquids of low to medium viscosity. It dispenses vegetable oils and oil serums well, as well as blends for facial or scalp massage, oil care for hair ends, beard oils, diluted blends of essential oils, and tinctures or herbal extracts with an alcohol base.
Thick oils, for example castor oil, or products containing waxes and thickeners flow slowly through the dropper insert and are difficult to dispense drop by drop. For such formulations, a pump or a plain cap without a dropper insert is more suitable. Aqueous solutions and emulsions can be dispensed through the dropper insert, but in most cases a sprayer or a pump will serve them better.
Filling and capacity
The nominal capacity of 100 ml is the amount the medicine bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total capacity to the brim is larger and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between the two values leaves room for the dropper insert pushed into the neck and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal capacity. If the bottle is overfilled, the dropper insert pushes part of the contents out when it is pressed in, the oil gets onto the thread and prevents the cap from seating cleanly.
First fill the bottle, and only then press the dropper insert evenly into the neck until it sits fully around the whole circumference. Tighten the cap by hand with moderate force. The tamper-evident ring is not broken when the cap is tightened; it breaks only when the cap is unscrewed.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, the dropper insert and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Any residual water in the dropper insert would get into an oil-based product.
Glass does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature well. Do not pour hot contents into a cold bottle; let the product cool down to at least room temperature first.
The dropper insert and the cap are made of plastic (PP). With undiluted essential oils or products with a high proportion of solvents, check whether the plastic changes shape or tightness after longer contact.
Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food. The dropper insert and the cap do not have it, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics and is not recommended for homemade oils or syrups in this configuration.
The medicine bottle can be reused after washing. Once removed from the neck, the dropper insert no longer holds as firmly as it did at first use, so it is better to replace it with a new one when refilling. When sorting waste, glass goes with glass, while the plastic parts are removed before disposal and sorted separately.
The tamper-evident ring on the cap works only once. After it is broken, the cap can still be screwed on and seals, but the set can no longer be sold as unopened. When filling for sale, tighten the cap carefully and do not open it to check.
