Product description
The 30 ml glass bottle with a black and silver dropper is a ready-made set for dropwise dispensing. The opaque black glass protects the contents from light, so it suits products that lose potency or change colour in light: facial serums with active ingredients, oil serums, blends with essential oils, tinctures and oil extracts. The glossy black surface with the silver collar of the dropper looks complete even without further finishing, which is useful for small batches for sale or for gifts.
The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the dropper does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products.
How to use the set
The dropper screws onto the bottle like a standard closure. Its glass tube reaches into the bottle, and at the top there is a silicone bulb in a black plastic cap with a silver aluminium collar. Squeeze the bulb before immersing the tube, then release it in the liquid and the tube fills. Squeezing again dispenses the contents drop by drop. A few drops of serum onto the face or of oil into the palm can therefore be measured accurately, without spilling and without the contents touching your fingers.
Dropwise dispensing works with liquid and moderately thick contents. Thicker oil serums are drawn up more slowly and form larger drops. The dropper cannot draw up creams and gels; for such textures we recommend choosing a different type of closure.
Fill the bottle to the nominal volume of 30 ml, not up to the neck. When the dropper is screwed on, it displaces part of the volume upwards, and in an overfilled bottle the contents overflow through the thread, which impairs the seal.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful capacity given in the parameters is the physical volume of the glass up to the neck. The difference between them forms a reserve for the immersed tube of the dropper and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. When calculating the consumption of raw materials and when labelling the quantity on the product, the nominal volume is therefore used.
What the set is suitable for
- Facial serums – water-based and hydroalcoholic serums with vitamin C, retinol or plant extracts that need protection from light and precise dispensing.
- Oil serums and facial oils – liquid vegetable oils and their blends with essential oils, where the dropper measures a few drops for a single use.
- Tinctures and oil extracts – alcoholic and oil extracts of herbs, for which dark glass is the usual standard.
- Hair and moustache oils – the dropper applies the oil directly to the scalp or into the palm.
- Samples and test batches – the smaller volume makes it possible to test the stability of a formulation in the finished packaging before moving on to a larger batch.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Rinse the tube of the dropper on the inside and squeeze the bulb several times in a row in the disinfecting solution so that its inner space is cleaned as well.
Fill with cooled contents. A hot liquid contracts as it cools in a closed bottle and strains both the seal and the bulb of the dropper. For blends with a higher proportion of essential oils, we recommend checking in practice how the silicone bulb and the plastic parts of the cap react to them. Concentrated essential oils can cause some plastics to swell over time.
After filling, tighten the dropper by hand and, before dispatch or transport, try turning the bottle upside down. Oily contents easily run down the thread, so wipe the neck before screwing the dropper on.
Both the bottle and the dropper can be reused. Oil is harder to clean from the bulb and the tube than water-based contents; soaking in warm water with washing-up liquid followed by disinfection will help. The bottle belongs in glass recycling; the dropper consists of several materials, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.
Other closures with the same type of neck, which you will find in the parameters, also fit the bottle, and ready-made combinations of packaging with closures are available in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
The set with the dropper is not declared for food contact. For homemade oils, syrups or herbal extracts, use the bottle on its own with a closure that has a food-contact certificate.
