Product description

A glossy black glass bottle with a volume of 30 ml and a plastic pump in a white and silver finish together form ready-to-use packaging for serums, facial oils and light fluids that are used in small amounts. The dark glass lets only a minimum of light through to the contents, which helps protect ingredients sensitive to it. The pump dispenses the same dose with every press, and the contents do not come into contact with your fingers or the air to the extent they would with an open jar.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the pump does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

How the set works

The bottle has the shape of a pharmaceutical bottle, with a narrow neck onto which the pump is screwed. The pump dip tube reaches into the contents and, when the head is pressed, delivers a single dose of approximately 0.14 ml. A full bottle yields roughly 200 doses; the exact number depends on the thickness of the contents and on how much liquid remains below the end of the tube.

The pump is made of polypropylene, other plastics and aluminium. The white and silver surface with a clear part matches the glossy black glass.

The pump dip tube is longer than the height of the bottle. Before the first filling, shorten it with a sharp knife or scissors so that it ends just above the bottom. The pump then draws up the contents right to the end and no air is left in it.

What it is suitable for

  • Facial serums – water-based and gel serums with low to medium viscosity that are dispensed in a few drops and often contain active ingredients sensitive to light.
  • Facial and hair oils – blends of vegetable oils flow through the tube without problems, and the dark glass limits the access of light to the contents.
  • Light emulsions and fluids – liquid day creams, make-up primers or products for the eye area, provided they are fluid enough for the pump to draw them up.
  • Samples and travel sizes – the 30 ml volume corresponds to a standard serum size and is suitable for smaller batches or for testing a formulation with customers.

Thick creams, butters and balms cannot be reliably dispensed with this pump. Jars or pumps with a larger dose and without a tube are more suitable for them.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for under normal filling. Total brimful volume, stated in the parameters, is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference provides a reserve for the tube and body of the pump and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume. If the bottle were filled to the brim, part of the contents would be pushed out through the neck once the pump is screwed on.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Rinse the pump with clean water or ethanol by pressing it several times, and let it dry unscrewed from the bottle. Do not fill the glass with a hot formulation; let emulsions cool to room temperature before filling.

For contents with a higher proportion of essential oils or alcohol, we recommend checking how the plastic parts of the pump behave after several weeks. Glass is resistant to these ingredients.

After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. The pump is harder to clean, especially after oil-based contents, and when changing the formulation it is safer to fit a new one. Store the packaging in a dry and clean environment.

If you plan to use the bottle without the pump for food purposes, the food contact certificate applies only to the glass. With the pump fitted, the set cannot be used for food.

Closures with the same neck type as this bottle, as well as other ready-made combinations, can be found in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the black glass bottle with a pump suitable for a vitamin C serum?
Yes, the dark black glass lets only a minimum of light through to the contents, and the pump limits the contact of the contents with air, so it protects ingredients sensitive to light and oxidation. The stability of the serum is ensured primarily by the formulation; the packaging only supports it. For water-based serums with vitamin C, we recommend filling smaller batches and watching for any colour change.
How many doses are there in a 30 ml bottle with this pump?
One dose is approximately 0.14 ml, so a full bottle yields roughly 200 presses. The actual number depends on the thickness of the contents, on whether the tube is shortened down to the bottom, and on the small remainder that the pump can no longer draw up. With thicker fluids, the dose tends to be slightly smaller.
Can the pump also be used to dispense a facial oil?
Yes, vegetable oils and their blends are drawn up by the pump with a tube without problems. Thicker oils flow more slowly and the dose may be slightly smaller. Oils containing solid fractions, such as unrefined butters, cannot be dispensed with this pump.
Why does the bottle have a total volume greater than 30 ml?
The difference between the nominal and total volume is a reserve for the pump and for the expansion of the contents. Once the pump is screwed on, the tube and the lower part of the pump take up space in the neck, and if the bottle were full to the brim, the contents would be pushed out. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal 30 ml.
Can I use the glass bottle with a pump for food, for example for cooking oil?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the plastic pump does not have one. The bottle without the pump can be used for food purposes, but not with the pump fitted.
