Product description
A blue glass bottle with a volume of 100 ml, complete with a plastic dropper insert and a black ribbed safety cap, is intended for liquid cosmetic preparations that are dispensed drop by drop. Coloured glass lets through less light than clear glass, so it suits facial and body oils, oil serums or blends with essential oils. The set consists of three parts for the same neck, so you do not need to look for a separate closure for the bottle.
The narrow neck of the medicine bottle makes precise pouring and holding in the hand easier. The dropper insert fitted in the neck releases the contents drop by drop, which you will appreciate with preparations containing a higher proportion of active ingredients, where a small amount is dispensed per use.
What the set consists of
- Glass medicine bottle, blue, 100 ml – the body of the packaging, made of coloured glass. It does not react with oils, alcohol or aqueous solutions and limits the access of light to the contents.
- Plastic dropper insert, long – a clear PP dropper insert that is pressed into the neck and regulates the flow of the contents into drops. The long version reaches deeper into the bottle.
- Plastic safety cap, black, ribbed – a screw-on cap made of PE. The ribbing improves grip when opening and closing.
All three parts have the same neck type. If you want to use the bottle with a different closure, in the Handymade range you will find closures for the same neck and other ready-made combinations. For your own set-up, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
What it is suitable for
It works best with low-viscosity liquid preparations that are meant to be dispensed in drops. Bottles with a dropper insert are commonly filled with facial oils, nail and cuticle oils, oil serums, blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, or alcohol solutions and toners applied by the drop onto a cotton pad. A volume of 100 ml suits a body or massage oil for longer use. For facial serums it is a larger pack, better suited to a workshop or regular users.
A dropper insert is not suitable for thick gel serums, emulsions or oils with a higher proportion of butters. Such contents flow slowly or a drop does not form at all. In that case choose a bottle with a pump or a wider neck.
Filling and volume
Nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for under normal filling. Total brimful volume, given in the parameters, is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the dropper insert, which takes up part of the neck once inserted, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim.
Fill the bottle using a funnel or from a container with a spout, and press the dropper insert into the neck only after filling. If oil gets onto the outside of the neck, wipe it off before screwing on the cap, otherwise the closure may loosen over time.
For alcohol solutions and aqueous preparations, leave an even slightly larger reserve. Thin liquids pass through the dropper insert faster when the bottle is turned upside down, so check the dripping rate with your finished formulation and adjust the directions for use if necessary.
Good to know
Before first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Treat the dropper insert and the cap in the same way. Residual moisture in the bottle shows up as cloudiness in oil-based preparations and shortens their shelf life.
Glass tolerates oil, alcohol and aqueous contents without any change in properties, but it does not cope well with sudden temperature changes. Do not pour hot contents into a cold bottle; let them cool first. The PP dropper insert and the PE cap are plastics. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking how these parts behave in the finished formulation, for example whether the dropper insert softens or changes shape.
Aqueous preparations and hydrosol toners need a preservative regardless of the packaging. Blue glass limits the access of light but does not ensure microbial stability.
All three parts of the set are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products; you will find the declaration of conformity with the product. The set is not intended for food.
After washing, the bottle can be reused. When reusing it, check that the dropper insert still sits tightly in the neck after being removed and reinserted, and that the cap closes properly. At the end of its life, glass belongs in glass waste; the dropper insert and the cap are sorted as plastic.
