Product description
A Boston round glass bottle with a capacity of 100 ml made from amber glass is a packaging option designed for preparations that require protection from light. Dark glass limits the penetration of UV radiation, thereby slowing the oxidation of sensitive components such as vegetable and essential oils, vitamins, and botanical extracts. The PP28S threaded neck allows the bottle to be paired with a variety of closures from the Handymade range.
The packaging is approved for direct contact with food as well as for use with cosmetic products. It is equally suited to a cosmetic workshop or a kitchen, for home-made oils, syrups, and herbal infusions.
Why choose amber glass
- Light protection – amber glass absorbs most UV radiation, which accelerates yellowing of oils, degradation of vitamins, and loss of fragrance in essential oils. The preparation thus retains its original character for longer.
- Chemical stability – glass does not react with its contents and does not absorb fragrances. It is therefore also suitable for alcohol-based tinctures, essential oils, and preparations with a higher solvent content that could damage certain plastics.
- Reusability – after thorough cleaning and disinfection, the bottle can be refilled, which is practical for small batches and when testing formulations.
- Boston round shape – the stable cylindrical form with straight walls fits comfortably in the hand and provides a flat surface for a label. Boston round is a shape designation, not a statement of intended use.
What the bottle is suitable for
A capacity of 100 ml corresponds to the standard size for facial, body, and hair oils, oil serums, tonics and hydrosols, tinctures, massage oils, and concentrated essential oil blends for dilution. In the home, it can be used for herbal oils, syrups, vinegar infusions, or liquid seasoning blends. Thanks to the dark glass, it is particularly suited to preparations containing unsaturated oils (rosehip, flaxseed, hemp, evening primrose) or sensitive active ingredients that would lose quality more quickly in a clear bottle.
The cylindrical Boston round bottle with its narrower neck is not suitable for thick creams and balms. Wide-neck jars are more appropriate for those.
Nominal volume and fill-to-brim volume
For each packaging, we list two volumes. Nominal volume is the amount for which the bottle is designed under normal filling conditions and corresponds to the volume stated on the label. Total fill-to-brim volume is the physical capacity up to the neck. The difference between the two is a reserve that accommodates the lower part of the closure, dropper, or pump, and allows for slight expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Otherwise, when the closure is applied, the contents will overflow or the closure cannot be tightened properly. Specific values for both volumes can be found in the product specifications.
Closures and combinations
The bottle is compatible with all closures matching the neck type listed in the specifications: screw caps, droppers, pumps, and sprayers. Ready-made bottle-and-closure combinations are available in the Handymade range as individual products. For a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal integrity of the closure, the accuracy of dispensing, and how the packaging performs with the specific formulation, particularly for viscous oils that dispense more slowly through a dropper.
Before first use, wash the bottle with warm water and a mild detergent, rinse thoroughly, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and leave to dry completely upside down. Residual water in an oil-based preparation reduces its stability and promotes microbial growth.
Good to know
Labelling. The straight cylindrical wall provides ample space for a label around the full circumference. Bottle dimensions can be found in the specifications. For oil-based preparations, we recommend grease-resistant labels to prevent them peeling off when oil drips down the side.
Glass and temperature. The bottle withstands normal filling temperatures, but a sudden thermal shock (hot contents into cold glass or vice versa) may cause the glass to crack. Allow warm preparations to cool slightly before filling and do not place the bottle in a freezer.
Changing contents. When switching to a different type of fill (for example, from an essential oil to a hydrosol), bear in mind that a strong fragrance may linger in the closure rather than in the glass. It is advisable to replace the closure.
Recycling. The bottle is made from single-material glass and belongs in the coloured glass collection. The closure is sorted separately according to its material.
Amber glass protects against light, not against heat or air. Store sensitive oils and tinctures away from direct sunlight and heat regardless, and close the bottle immediately after each use.
