Product description
Glass medicine bottle 200 ml, amber glass, neck PP28S
Glass medicine bottle 200 ml in amber glass is designed for fills that lose quality when exposed to light: vegetable and macerated oils, tinctures, hydrolats, tonics, liquid soaps, bath oils, or facial and hair serums in larger sizes. Amber glass reduces light exposure to the contents and does not react with the fill itself. The screw neck PP28S is a standard type compatible with a cap, dropper, pump, or spray dispenser depending on how the contents are to be dispensed.
The bottle has documented suitability for cosmetic products and direct food contact, making it suitable for home-made oils, syrups, vinegars, and herbal extracts as well. The declaration of conformity and material documentation are listed in the product parameters.
Why choose amber glass
- Light protection – amber glass absorbs most UV radiation and part of the visible spectrum, slowing down yellowing, colour fading, and oxidative changes in the scent of oils, essential oils, and plant extracts.
- Chemical resistance – glass does not react with essential oils, alcohol, or mildly acidic aqueous solutions; nothing leaches into the contents and it does not absorb the scent of a previous fill.
- Reusability – after washing and disinfection the bottle can be refilled, making it suitable for small-batch production as well as repeated refilling of personal products.
- Medicine bottle shape – a straight cylindrical body with a short neck stands stably, fits comfortably in the hand, and provides a flat surface for a label. Medicine bottle refers to the shape, not the intended use of the container.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for under normal filling conditions. Total brim-full volume is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between the two provides clearance for a closure, dropper, or pump that enters the neck, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Both values are listed in the parameters.
When filling hot products, such as liquid soap or syrup, allow the fill to cool to at least room temperature, or fill slightly less to prevent the contents from being forced past the thread when the closure is fitted.
Choosing a closure
All closures with the same thread type fit the PP28S neck. Closures for this neck and ready-made bottle + closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing, and packaging behaviour with the specific formulation before larger production runs, particularly with oils and alcohol-based fills.
Good to know
Preparation before first fill. A new bottle is not sterile. Before use, wash it with warm water and a small amount of detergent, rinse thoroughly, and disinfect the inside with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Leave it to dry completely with the neck facing down. Residual water would dilute oil-based fills and increases the risk of microbial growth in aqueous products.
Suitable fills. Glass tolerates aqueous, alcohol-based, and oil-based contents without restriction. It does not react with the contents, does not release any substances into them, and does not absorb scent. For aqueous products such as tonics or hydrolats, preservation remains the responsibility of the formulation. A dark container protects against light, not microbes.
Heat and impact. Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Do not pour a hot fill into a cold bottle and vice versa. When transporting finished products, account for fragility and keep bottles separated from each other.
Labelling. The straight body of the bottle provides a full surface for a label; label dimensions are listed in the parameters. Apply the label to a dry, degreased surface.
Amber glass reduces light rather than blocking it completely. Light-sensitive products, such as oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, should be stored away from direct sunlight even in an amber bottle.
Recycling. The bottle is made of glass and belongs in glass collection. Before disposal, simply remove any closure made from a different material.
