Guar or also guar gum is a fiber extracted from guar beans of the plant Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba. It is used as an emulsifier or thickener (in the food industry designated as E412), because even in very small amounts it increases the viscosity of water.

It is very often used in body or face cleansing products, shampoos, and it can be used in any product that contains a lot of water.
However, when using it, keep in mind that it clouds transparent solutions and can cause a sticky feeling on the skin.

Guar gum has a high pH (> 9). In order to thicken a solution containing guar gum, the pH must be <7. Add a small amount of citric acid to achieve a lower pH and the solution will thicken.
