Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside is a non-ionic surfactant of plant origin produced from fatty alcohols (C8–C10) and glucose. It belongs to the group of so-called alkyl polyglucosides (APG) – surface-active agents that are gentle to the skin, biodegradable and ideal for modern “clean beauty” formulations. It combines high mildness with very good cleansing and foaming performance. It is suitable even for sensitive or baby skin and at the same time provides excellent stability over a wide pH range and in combination with other surfactants.

Use in formulation

• Recommended dosage: typically 2–30 % depending on product type (lower in combinations with other surfactants, higher in mild gels and shampoos).
• Incorporation: add to the aqueous phase; if necessary, pre-mix with other surfactants. Mix the concentrate well before use – slight phase separation is common and reversible.
• pH stability: stable over a broad pH range (2–12), recommended final product pH 5–8.
• Optics: any cloudiness in the concentrate or blend will clear after pH adjustment (below 8.5).
• Storage: store at 10–40 °C, protect from freezing. Always homogenise before use.
• It is recommended to add during the cooling phase (at temperatures below 40 °C) in order to maintain clarity and stability.

Safety and stability

Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside is highly skin-compatible and is among the mildest surface-active agents available in cosmetics. It is 100 % biodegradable and meets the requirements of environmental standards for ecological cleaning and cosmetic products. When handling the concentrate (pH 11.5–12.5), use basic protective equipment; in finished cosmetic products, the pH has already been adjusted to a skin-acceptable level. Finished products must be preserved with an appropriate preservative system according to the contamination risk.
