Product description

A 500 ml plastic bottle with a white screw cap and dropper insert is a container for thin liquids dispensed in small amounts. The dropper fitted in the neck narrows the outlet, so the contents do not pour out all at once but drop by drop or in a thin stream. Through the transparent wall you can see the colour and clarity of the contents as well as how much is left.

The set is suitable for massage and body oils, bath oils, hydrosols, facial and hair waters. It also works as a bulk packaging for liquid raw materials from which only small amounts are drawn during production. Plastic is lightweight and will not shatter if dropped, which is an advantage in the bathroom, the workshop, and when shipping finished products. The bottle, cap, and dropper are all declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics.

How the set dispenses and seals

The dropper sits in the bottle neck and the cap screws onto the neck above it. When the bottle is tilted, the contents flow out through the small opening. Dispensing speed depends on the viscosity of the contents and the angle of tilt. Thin aqueous solutions and alcohol-based preparations drip quickly; oils drip more slowly and evenly.

  • Controlled dispensing – even from a large volume, a few drops can be drawn without spilling.
  • Reduced air contact – the narrow opening limits the entry of contaminants and reduces the surface area through which the contents are exposed to air after opening.
  • Spill protection – if the bottle is knocked over, the contents will not pour out all at once. A properly tightened cap ensures leak-proof transport.

Thick gels, creams, emulsions, and preparations containing solid particles do not dispense well through a dropper insert. For such products, a different closure type is more appropriate.

Before filling a larger batch, it is worth filling one test bottle to verify that the specific formulation drips at the desired rate and that the cap seals properly when tightened in a horizontal position.

Nominal and total volume

Two volumes are distinguished for the bottle. Nominal volume is the quantity the container is intended for during normal filling. Total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is the headspace for the dropper insert, which extends into the neck, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes.

Good to know

Preparation before first filling. We recommend washing the bottle, cap, and dropper, sanitising with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allowing to dry completely. Residual water in the container is a risk especially with oil-based and anhydrous products.

Filling. The bottle is filled before the dropper is inserted. The dropper is then pressed into the neck and the container closed with the cap. The contents should be filled cooled down, as a hot fill can deform the plastic.

Light. Transparent plastic does not protect the contents from light. Products sensitive to light should therefore be stored away from light.

For preparations with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol, or other solvents, we recommend testing compatibility with the plastic on a sample bottle in advance. Monitor the shape and transparency of the bottle, the scent of the contents, and the seal of the closure.

Food contact. The set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The bottle and cap individually hold food contact declarations; the dropper does not.

Labelling. The rounded shape of the bottle provides a continuous surface for a label around the circumference. The dimensions needed to design it are listed in the specifications. The label should be applied to a dry, grease-free surface.

Other closures. Closures with the same neck type as specified in the parameters, as well as ready-made bottle and closure combinations, are available from Handymade. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing performance, and container behaviour with the specific formulation.

Recycling. All three parts of the set are plastic; the cap and dropper are made of polypropylene. The empty, rinsed container belongs in sorted plastic waste.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 500 ml plastic bottle with dropper suitable for food use?
The 500 ml plastic bottle and dropper set is not approved for food contact; it is intended for cosmetic products. The bottle and white cap individually carry food contact declarations; the dropper does not. We therefore do not recommend the set with the dropper for oils, syrups, or extracts intended for consumption. All three parts are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.
Does the transparent plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
No, the transparent plastic bottle transmits light. This is an advantage when the colour and quantity of the contents need to be visible. However, for vegetable oils prone to oxidation, essential oils, and light-sensitive active ingredients it can accelerate changes in colour or scent. Such preparations are best stored in the dark – for example in a cabinet or cardboard box – or packed in a dark-coloured container.
What products can be dispensed through the dropper in a 500 ml bottle?
The dropper in the 500 ml bottle dispenses thin liquids well – vegetable and massage oils, hydrosols, facial and hair waters, or liquid raw materials. Aqueous and alcoholic solutions flow out faster; oils more slowly. Thick gels, creams, and preparations containing particles will not pass through the opening or will clog it, so a different closure type is more appropriate for them.
How much should be filled into the 500 ml plastic bottle with dropper?
The bottle should be filled to the nominal volume of 500 ml, not up to the brim of the neck. The headspace above the fill level is needed for the dropper, which extends into the neck, and for expansion of the contents at higher temperatures. If filled to the brim, the contents would overflow when the dropper is pressed in and the closure might not seal properly.
Can the plastic bottle with dropper be reused?
Yes, the plastic bottle with dropper can be refilled after thorough cleaning. All parts are washed with warm water and detergent, rinsed, sanitised with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and left to dry completely. After oils and strong scents, an odour may remain in the plastic, so it is advisable to refill the bottle repeatedly with the same or a similar type of product.
