Product description

A clear plastic bottle with a volume of 100 ml and a clear disc top cap make a ready-to-use set for liquid and medium-thick cosmetic products that are dispensed by squeezing the bottle. Clear PET shows the colour of the contents and how much is left, and the bottle is lightweight. The cap opens by pressing the edge of the disc, the contents flow out through the central opening and the neck stays covered, so nothing needs to be unscrewed with each use.

The 100 ml bottle with a disc top has proven itself for shower gels, shampoos and conditioners in travel size, body lotions, cleansing and massage oils, facial toners or liquid soap where a pump is not needed. It is also suitable for customer samples and for smaller batches where you want to test the formulation first.

How the set works

The bottle has a 24/410 neck finish and the cap screws onto it until the seal sits flush. You release the opening in the disc by pressing the side with the tab, and after use you push it back with the same movement. The size of the dose is controlled by the viscosity of the contents and the force of the squeeze. Gel or lotion flows out slowly and can be measured into the palm, while very thin liquids flow out quickly, so dispense them with a gentle squeeze. Thick creams and butters are hard to squeeze through a disc top, so jars are more suitable for them.

The wall of the PET bottle is flexible and returns to its shape after squeezing.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 100 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume, given in the parameters, is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them forms a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill up to the nominal volume. If you filled it to the brim, the contents would overflow when the cap is screwed on and the disc top would stick unnecessarily after opening.

When filling for the first time, measure out 100 ml of water and mark the level. Fill every further batch up to this mark; the level will stay below the neck and the cap can be tightened without overflow.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely with the neck facing down. Residual water in the packaging can spoil the filled product. Repeat the disinfection each time you reuse the packaging.

PET does not tolerate heat. Do not fill the bottle with emulsions, thick serums or hot gels until they have cooled to room temperature. Warm contents will deform the bottle and the cap will then not seal.

For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend testing how the packaging behaves on a single piece. Leave a filled bottle to stand for several weeks and watch for cloudiness, softening of the wall and the tightness of the disc. Clear plastic offers no light protection, so store products with light-sensitive ingredients in the dark or choose amber packaging for them.

The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and you can find the declaration of conformity with the product. A food-contact certificate is not declared for it, as the set is intended for cosmetics. The bottle is made of PET and the cap of PP; before disposal, unscrew them and sort them as plastic.

Other closures with the same thread type from the Handymade range can also be used on the 24/410 neck. If you make your own combination, check the seal and the dispensing with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does a clear PET bottle with a disc top protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. A clear bottle is suitable for products that are not affected by daylight, for example shower gels, shampoos or liquid soap. Serums with vitamin C, retinoids or sensitive plant extracts belong in amber glass or must be stored in the dark.
What products can be dispensed through a disc top cap?
Liquid to medium-thick products that can be pushed out by squeezing the bottle are dispensed best through a disc top: gels, lotions, oils, shampoos and conditioners. Very thin solutions flow out quickly and require a gentle squeeze. Thick creams and butters will not pass through the central opening, so choose a jar or container for them.
How much does a 100 ml plastic bottle actually hold?
Fill it up to the nominal volume of 100 ml, not to the brim. Above this level the bottle has a reserve that allows for the screwed-on cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The total brimful volume is given in the product parameters, but it cannot be used in normal filling, as the contents would overflow when closing.
Can a bottle with a disc top be reused, and how is it cleaned?
Yes, the bottle and the cap can be used again after washing. Wash both parts in warm water with washing-up liquid, open the disc during washing so that the channel is rinsed too, then disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry. If the cap stops sealing after some time or the disc is hard to close, replace it with a new one.
Is a PET bottle suitable for oils, alcohol-based toners and water-based products?
A PET bottle is used as standard for water-based products and common vegetable oils. For alcohol-based toners, products with a high proportion of essential oils or products with solvents, we recommend testing how the packaging behaves on a single piece first and watching for cloudiness, softening of the wall and tightness. Hot fills do not belong in PET, regardless of the composition.
