Product description

A white plastic bottle with a volume of 150 ml and a matte black screw cap is a ready-made packaging and closure combination for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products. The bottle is made of PET, it is lightweight, and a fall onto a hard floor will not harm it. The white opaque material hides the contents and limits the access of light, which you will appreciate with formulations containing light-sensitive ingredients, or with products whose colour or cloudiness should not be visible at first glance.

The volume suits body lotions, shampoos, shower gels, toners, facial waters, body and massage oils, and make-up removers, that is, everything that is dispensed by pouring into the palm or onto a cotton pad. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The certificate for direct food contact applies to the bottle alone; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

How to work with the set

The cap with a 24/410 neck finish sits directly on the bottle neck, so no further parts need to be bought for the packaging. The closure has no dispensing opening; the contents are poured out after unscrewing. It therefore works best with thin to medium-thick liquids. Thick creams and butters will come out of the narrow neck with difficulty, and a jar or a bottle with a pump is better suited to them.

The matte black finish of the cap contrasts in colour with the white bottle, so the packaging looks finished even without a label. If you want to combine the bottle with a different closure, in the Handymade range you will find closures with the same neck type as well as other ready-made combinations. For a custom assembly, we recommend checking the tightness and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 150 ml is the quantity the bottle is intended for in normal filling. The physical volume up to the neck is larger. The difference between the two values is a reserve for the cap thread and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature, for example in a bathroom or during transport. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume. If you filled it up to the neck, the cap would sit in the liquid and the contents could spill out when closing.

Preparation, filling and reuse

  • Before the first filling – wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and let them dry completely. Residual water would dilute the product and worsen its microbiological stability.
  • Filling temperature – PET is not intended for hot contents. Let emulsions and gels cool to room temperature before filling them.
  • Reuse – after washing and disinfection, the packaging can be filled again. With every new filling, check that the cap thread still seats firmly.
  • Recycling – the bottle belongs in PET waste and the cap is made of polypropylene; separate them before disposal.

Before the first real filling, carry out a leak test. Place the filled and closed bottle on its side or upside down for several days. If nothing leaks through, the combination is suitable for your formulation.

Aggressive chemicals and strong solvents can attack PET. For products with a higher proportion of essential oils, we recommend filling one bottle first as a test and checking after several weeks whether the wall has become cloudy, softened or deformed.

Frequently asked questions

Is the white 150 ml plastic bottle with a black cap suitable for contact with food?
The set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. The white PET bottle alone has a certificate for direct food contact, but the matte black cap does not, so this combination is intended for cosmetic products. For food use, choose a closure for the bottle whose parameters state that it is suitable for food contact.
Does the white PET bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, white opaque PET limits the access of light to the contents more than clear plastic does. It is therefore suitable for products with light-sensitive ingredients, for example vegetable oils prone to oxidation or certain active ingredients. It is not a complete barrier, however, so store the filled packaging away from direct sunlight.
Can I fill the 150 ml bottle right up to the brim?
No, the bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 150 ml. The space above the liquid level is a reserve for the cap thread and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. If it were filled to the brim, the contents would reach the thread, the cap would push the liquid out when closing, and there would be a risk of leakage.
Can hot contents be filled into a PET bottle?
No, hot contents do not belong in a PET bottle. The material must be protected from heat, and at higher temperatures the bottle wall can become deformed. Let emulsions, gels and infusions cool to room temperature before filling. For products that thicken only after cooling, wait for the final consistency, so that you know whether they will pour well through the narrow neck.
Is the PET bottle suitable for oils and products containing essential oils?
The PET bottle is suitable for vegetable oils and ordinary cosmetic emulsions. Aggressive chemicals and strong solvents can, however, attack the plastic over time, so for formulations with a higher content of essential oils we recommend a trial filling of one bottle. After several weeks, check whether the wall has become cloudy, softened or deformed.
