Product description
The white plastic bottle with a volume of 150 ml and a black flip top cap is a ready-made combination for liquid and semi-thick cosmetic products that are dispensed by squeezing the bottle. Shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion or liquid soap can be dispensed from it with one hand, without unscrewing anything. The smaller volume suits travel packs, samples and the first batches of a new product, when the formulation is still being fine-tuned.
The bottle is made of PET and the cap of PP. Both parts have a 24/410 neck finish and are supplied together as one piece. The opaque white wall lets less light through to the contents than clear plastic, which helps with formulations containing plant extracts, oils or colorants that change shade in light. The black cap on the white bottle gives the packaging a clean look that works well with a simple label as well as with printing.
Suitable uses
- Rinse-off products – shower gels, shampoos, conditioners and cleansing gels, where one-handed opening and quick closing in the shower are appreciated.
- Body lotions and light creams – semi-thick emulsions that can be dispensed by squeezing the bottle. Once closed, the cap holds the contents without leaking.
- Liquid soaps and hand cleansing products – a smaller pack for travelling, for a handbag or as a companion to a larger pack with a pump.
- Samples and test batches – the volume is enough to check how a formulation behaves in real use without needing a large amount of raw material.
How to work with the set
The flip top opens by pressing your thumb against the tab on the lid. The contents come out through a small opening when the bottle is squeezed, and the lid closes with a click. The amount dispensed is controlled by how hard you squeeze, so products of medium thickness dispense best. Very thin aqueous solutions, such as toners or facial waters, run out of the opening quickly and are harder to control. A fine mist sprayer or a disc top cap is more suitable for them. Thick creams and butters, on the other hand, cannot be squeezed out through a flip top. They belong in a jar or in a pump for thicker textures.
The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is always somewhat larger. The difference is a reserve for the cap, for the air above the surface and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the contents get into the thread and the cap sticks after closing.
After filling, let the bottle stand for a short while and only then tighten the cap. With thicker gel products, air bubbles rise to the top and the level drops, so it is easier to check that the filling does not exceed the nominal volume.
Good to know
Before the first filling, we recommend washing the bottle and the cap, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and letting them dry completely. Residual water in the thread or in the cap would get into the product and put a strain on the preservative system. After thorough washing, the set can be used repeatedly. On each reuse, check the lid hinge and the tightness of the closure so that the contents do not leak when the bottle is turned upside down.
PET is filled cold. Warm contents deform the bottle wall, so let emulsions and gels cool to room temperature first and only then fill them. Store the empty packaging in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Both parts are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The certificate for direct contact with food applies only to the bottle; the cap does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.
Concentrated essential oils, fragrance compositions at higher usage rates and solvents can attack PET. For anhydrous fragranced products and preparations with a high alcohol content, we recommend checking compatibility in the finished formulation, ideally with a test filling kept for several weeks.
If you want to combine the bottle with a different closure, such as a pump or a disc top, choose closures with a 24/410 neck finish. You can find further closures with this neck type, as well as ready-made bottle and closure combinations, in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
