Product description
A brown glass bottle with a flat top and a white cap with a reducer form a complete set for products dispensed in small quantities that require protection from light. Suitable for facial and hair oils, oil serums, tinctures, massage and bath oils, or alcohol-based preparations.
Brown glass reduces light transmission, which slows down the changes that light causes in vegetable oils, essential oils and plant extracts. The reducer in the neck narrows the outlet, so the contents do not pour out all at once but are dispensed drop by drop or in a thin stream. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity can be found with the product.
Key benefits
- Protection of contents from light – brown glass reduces light transmission and helps preserve the properties of oils and extracts that oxidize or change colour quickly when exposed to light.
- Controlled dispensing – the reducer releases the contents in small amounts, which is practical for oil serums and concentrated preparations where only a few drops are needed.
- Chemically neutral glass – glass does not react with essential oils or alcohol, making it suitable even for contents that could damage plastic containers over time.
- Tight and easy closure – the smooth screw cap can be firmly tightened, and the container opens and closes easily with everyday use.
- Reusable – glass can be thoroughly washed, disinfected and refilled. The reducer cap is recommended to be replaced with a new one when changing the contents.
Nominal and total volume
When filling, it is worth distinguishing two figures. The nominal volume is the quantity for which the container is designed for regular filling, and this is what is stated on the product label. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them is a reserve for the reducer and cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes.
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, never to the brim. When inserting the reducer, part of the contents would otherwise be pushed out and the cap would not seal properly.
How to work with the set
After filling, the reducer is pressed into the neck of the bottle and only then is the cap screwed on. When dispensing, tilt the bottle or turn it upside down, or tap it gently, and the contents flow out gradually. The dispensing rate depends on the viscosity of the contents. Thin oils, alcohol-based preparations and aqueous solutions flow out easily. Thick oils or preparations with a higher proportion of butters will pass through the reducer slowly, or not at all. For such contents, it is advisable to omit the reducer or choose a different type of closure.
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, rinse it, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based or anhydrous preparation promotes the growth of microorganisms and spoils the contents.
The bottle is made of glass, so it can withstand hot water when washing, but not sudden temperature changes. Hot contents should not be poured into a cold bottle; allow it to cool to room temperature before filling. The cap with reducer is made of polypropylene, which resists common cosmetic contents including oils and alcohol. With prolonged contact with a high concentration of essential oils, we recommend checking whether the reducer is softening or losing its seal.
Suitable for products such as
- Facial and hair oils – light-sensitive vegetable oils in dark glass last longer without changes in scent and colour; the reducer allows a few drops to be dispensed into the palm.
- Oil serums with active ingredients – small doses and protection from light are more important than dispensing speed for concentrated components.
- Tinctures and alcoholic extracts – glass does not react with alcohol, the reducer dispenses in drops, and dark glass protects the plant components.
- Massage and bath oils – a thin stream through the reducer is easier to control than free pouring from an open neck.
- Essential oil blends for dilution – these are usually small quantities where precise dosing matters.
For aqueous tonics or facial mists the set is usable, but a spray bottle is usually more practical. Creams and thick emulsions will not pass through the reducer.
Good to know
The glass bottle alone holds a certificate for direct contact with food. The cap with reducer does not have this assessment, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products. If you need a container for home oils, syrups or extracts intended for consumption, choose a bottle with a closure that has a food-grade certificate separately.
The smooth white cap without printing is suitable for a custom label, and the straight cylindrical shape of the bottle makes it easy to apply a label to the body. Label dimensions can be found in the parameters. When labelling your product, bear in mind that mandatory information on the label relates to the nominal volume.
Brown glass combined with the small outlet of the reducer also reduces contact of the contents with air at each use. This is beneficial for oils prone to oxidation, such as linseed, rosehip or cranberry oil.
When combining the bottle with a different closure yourself, any closure with the same neck type as specified in the parameters will work. Closures and ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. When assembling your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal and dispensing with the specific formulation. When empty, the glass bottle belongs in glass recycling; the plastic cap with reducer goes in plastics.
