Product description

Glass bottle, boston round, 28 mm, black cap, 300 ml

Amber glass boston round bottle with a capacity of 300 ml and a tall black cap form a complete set for products that require light protection. Amber glass reduces light penetration, protecting contents sensitive to oxidation and light degradation – plant and massage oils, oil macerates, hydrolats, tonics and alcohol-based tinctures. The 300 ml volume is suited for body and massage oils, larger packaging for face lotion, micellar water, storage bottles for raw materials or intermediates in production.

The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The glass bottle alone holds certification for direct food contact; the complete set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

How the set works

The cap screws onto the PP28S neck and seals the bottle for storage, transport and repeated opening. The contents are dispensed by pouring, so the set is best suited for products that are poured into the palm, onto a cotton pad or measured out – oils, hydrolats, tonics, liquid macerates. For products that need to be dispensed drop by drop or sprayed, a combination of the same bottle with a dropper or spray cap is more appropriate. These sets have their own description.

The tall cap gives the bottle a clean, closed look that pairs well with a full-cylinder label.

  • Light protection – amber glass slows the degradation of oils, essential oils and active ingredients sensitive to UV radiation.
  • Glass stability – glass does not react with oil-based, water-based or alcohol-based contents and does not absorb odours from the contents.
  • Screw cap – the bottle can be opened and closed repeatedly without loss of seal.
  • Reusable – once empty, the glass can be washed, disinfected and refilled.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the volume the container is designed for under normal filling. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them provides a reserve for the cap and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Both values are stated in the parameters.

When filling hot (for example oil macerates after maceration), allow the contents to cool to room temperature before sealing the bottle. Warm contents, once cooled, would create a vacuum inside the bottle and the cap would become difficult to open.

What is good to know

Before the first fill, wash both the bottle and the cap, rinse and disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Allow them to dry completely so that no water remains in the container. Water in an oil-based product would cause cloudiness or increase the risk of microbial contamination.

Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Do not pour hot contents into a cold bottle and do not heat a filled bottle directly on a hotplate. For tempering, use a water bath with gradual heating.

The cap is made of LDPE. For contents with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, check whether the cap deforms after prolonged storage and whether the seal remains tight. Before a larger batch, place the filled bottle on its side and monitor for several days to check for leaks.

Caps with the same neck type and ready-made combinations of this bottle with other closures are available in the Handymade range. For your own combination, verify the seal, dispensing and container behaviour with your formulation.

The bottle is made of glass, the cap of plastic. Before recycling, separate both parts and sort them individually by material.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 300 ml amber glass boston round bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces the penetration of both visible and UV light and slows oxidation and degradation of light-sensitive components. For plant oils, essential oils, oil macerates and serums with active ingredients, it is a more practical choice than clear glass. It does not replace complete protection, however, so store the bottle away from direct sunlight regardless.
How many ml can be poured into a bottle with a nominal volume of 300 ml?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 300 ml, not to the brim. The total volume up to the neck is slightly larger, and this difference serves as a reserve for the cap and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The reserve is particularly important for contents that are filled hot and that change volume as they cool. The exact values of both volumes are stated in the product parameters.
Is the amber glass boston round bottle with a black cap suitable for oils, hydrolats and tinctures?
Yes, glass is stable against oil-based, water-based and alcohol-based contents and does not react with the contents. For alcohol-based tinctures and products with a high proportion of essential oils, we recommend verifying the behaviour of the plastic cap during prolonged storage, as it is made of LDPE. Water-based products without preservatives will not last long in any container; shelf life is a matter of the formulation, not the bottle.
Can the 300 ml amber glass boston round bottle be washed and reused?
Yes, the bottle is designed for reuse. Once empty, wash it with warm water and detergent, rinse thoroughly, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Wash the cap in the same way. If the cap smells of the previous contents or is deformed, replace it with a new one.
Can I fill the amber glass boston round bottle with black cap set with food?
The complete set is not approved for food contact. The glass bottle alone holds certification for direct food contact; the cap in this set is declared for cosmetics only. If you want to use the bottle for home-made oils or syrups, choose a closure with its own food-contact certification.
Which cap fits the PP28S neck of this bottle?
All closures with the same neck type, i.e. with a 28/410 thread, fit the bottle, including droppers and spray caps. Ready-made combinations of this bottle with other closures are available in the Handymade range as separate sets. For your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal and dispensing with the specific formulation.
