Product description

Brown glass medicine bottle 300 ml with a black low cap protects from light everything that light can damage: plant and massage oils, hydrolats, tonics, tinctures, or stock blends of oils and fragrance compositions. The bottle and cap share the same thread type, making it a complete set with no need to test closures. The set is approved for direct contact with food and cosmetics, so it works equally well for homemade herbal oils, syrups, vinegars and infusions as for cosmetic preparations.

Why choose this set

  • Light protection – brown glass absorbs a large portion of light that accelerates the oxidation of oils, fading of colorants and loss of fragrance. The contents retain their original properties for longer even outside a dark cabinet.
  • Non-reactive glass – glass does not absorb fragrances, does not stain and does not react with alcohol, acidic contents or essential oils. It is therefore suitable for tinctures, vinegars and concentrated blends, where plastic containers soften over time or take on odours.
  • Low cap – the compact closure does not increase the bottle height; the set stands steadily on a shelf or a production table.
  • One decision instead of two – the bottle and cap share the same neck type; no need to search or test the closure separately.

What the set is suitable for

The 300 ml volume corresponds more to a stock or family-size container than to a small retail bottle for a serum. In cosmetic production it is useful for storing blended oil mixtures, macerates, hydrolats and tonics before filling into smaller bottles, or as a refill for dispensing bottles. At home it works well for massage and bath oils, liquid soaps without a pump, herbal tinctures, fruit vinegars, syrups or herb-infused kitchen oil.

It is less suitable for products that are dispensed drop by drop or applied directly from the container onto the skin. For such use, the contents are decanted into smaller bottles with a dropper or pump.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for during standard filling and is stated on the label. Total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck and is always slightly larger. The difference provides a margin for the closure and expansion of the contents with temperature change, and also prevents the contents from reaching the thread when closing. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Both values are listed in the product specifications.

When filling oils and alcohol-based contents, leave headspace below the neck. Liquid expands when warmed and a full bottle may overflow onto the thread when closed, which compromises the seal and soils the cap.

Working with the container and closure

Before first filling, both the bottle and cap are washed with warm soapy water, rinsed thoroughly and sanitised with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Then leave them to dry completely, neck down. Residual water would dilute oil-based contents and, in cosmetics without preservation, increase the risk of microbial growth.

Glass tolerates sudden temperature changes poorly. Do not pour a hot mixture into a cold bottle, and let a bottle taken from the cold warm up to room temperature first. Tighten the cap by hand, not by force. Over-tightening will not improve the seal and the plastic may crack over time.

A self-adhesive label can be applied around the cylindrical body of the bottle. The set can be reused after the same washing and sanitising process. At the end of its life, the glass goes into glass recycling and the unscrewed cap among plastics.

Other closures with the same neck type listed in the product specifications also fit the bottle. Ready-made combinations with a pump or spray head are available in the Handymade range.

Verify the cap seal before a larger batch on a single unit with the specific formulation, especially for alcohol-based and thin oily contents. Transport bottles upright and protected against impact.

Frequently asked questions

Does the brown glass bottle 300 ml protect the contents from light?
Yes, brown glass absorbs a large portion of ultraviolet and visible light, which accelerates the oxidation of oils and the degradation of sensitive substances. However, it is not complete darkness. Light-sensitive contents, such as cold-pressed oils with a high proportion of unsaturated acids or hydrolats, should be stored away from direct sunlight and in a cool place even in a brown bottle.
Is the glass bottle and black cap set suitable for food?
Yes, both the bottle and the cap have a documented declaration of suitability for direct contact with food, so the complete set can be used for homemade oils, vinegars, syrups and herbal infusions. Suitability for contact with cosmetics is also declared. Declarations of conformity for both components are available with the product.
How much can actually be filled into a bottle with a nominal volume of 300 ml?
It is filled to the nominal volume of 300 ml, not to the brim. The bottle also has additional capacity up to the neck, which serves for safe closing, expansion of the contents with temperature change and protection of the thread from contamination. The exact total volume to the brim is listed in the product specifications.
Is the 300 ml glass medicine bottle suitable for alcohol tinctures and vinegars?
Yes, glass does not react with alcohol or acidic environments and does not absorb fragrances, making it more suitable for tinctures, vinegars and macerations than plastic. For alcohol-based contents, the seal of the closure is important to prevent the alcohol from evaporating. Tighten the cap by hand and test the seal on a single unit before filling an entire batch.
Can the glass bottle with cap be reused?
Yes, the set is designed for repeated use. Before each new filling, both the bottle and cap are washed, rinsed, sanitised with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and left to dry completely. When switching from an oil content to a water-based mixture, thorough degreasing is essential; residual oil would otherwise cloud the aqueous contents.
What closures fit the 300 ml glass medicine bottle besides the black cap?
All closures with the same neck type listed in the product specifications fit the bottle, including pumps, spray heads and caps in other colours. When selecting your own closure, we recommend testing the seal and dispensing performance with the specific content, especially for thin oils and alcohol-based mixtures.
