Lemon balm essential oil (Melissa Officinalis) is obtained by steam distillation of its leaves and the flowering tops of the plant. The characteristic color of the essential oil is pale yellow with a pleasant lemon scent similar to fresh lemon balm.
Lemon balm in the form of an essential oil supports sleep and relieves tension and nervousness. Lemon balm thus has soothing effects, which are associated with anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Essential oil is never applied undiluted to the skin, but only in products or in a carrier oil (e.g. olive).
It helps with eczema and skin inflammations, however very sensitive skin may not tolerate lemon balm essential oil well. When applying, avoid areas in close proximity to the eyes and nose. Lemon balm essential oil is also suitable for the production of balms and ointments for the lips to alleviate cold sores.
Pure lemon balm essential oil is very expensive because its production is costly. To produce 500 ml of pure essential oil, it is necessary to harvest and distil 3.5 - 7 tons of the plant. Precisely because of its high price, blends of various essential oils (most often lemongrass and citronella) are often sold under the name lemon balm, which when mixed resemble its fragrance.
It is not suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Essential oils are pure and are absorbed into the skin very easily. They are soluble in fats.
All supplied raw materials are of cosmetic grade, not suitable for internal use. When handling, use appropriate protective equipment.

WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS?
Essential oils, also called ethereal oils, are natural aromatic substances that come from various parts of plants – stems, roots, seeds, flowers, leaves, etc. They give plants their characteristic fragrance and in addition have healing and protective effects. They have a very positive effect on symptoms on the physical, emotional and mental level.
Their chemical composition is quite complex. Essential oils are obtained from plants most often by distillation, extraction or pressing. Essential oils are highly concentrated and are used directly on the skin only after dilution with carrier vegetable oils (almond, apricot kernel, jojoba, etc.). The only exceptions are tea tree and lavender essential oils, which you can apply directly.
Use essential oils for inhalation or in your cosmetic products; the consumption of any essential oils of any brands is not recommended.
Essential oils are soluble in fats, therefore if you want to use them in products without oils and butters, use a solvent /solubilizer/.
HOW WILL I USE THE ESSENTIAL OIL?
Production of cosmetics and soaps – the required amount of essential oil depends on the specific recipe and the quantity produced. Inhalation, steaming – drip a few drops of essential oil into an aroma lamp, diffuser, or into a container with hot water.Bath – mix drops of the oil in a base oil /coconut, olive.../, in 1 dl of milk or in a teaspoon of honey, pour this mixture into the bathtub. Essential oils on their own are insoluble in water, the drops would float on the surface.Massage – add a few drops of essential oil to cold-pressed vegetable oil (approx. 50 ml) and mix well. Enjoy a pleasant massage.Sauna – you can choose from conifers, rosemary, eucalyptus, sage, mint or citrus fragrances. The number of drops depends on the size of the sauna and your taste.
Essential oils are also popular for use in skin care, local compresses, hair masks, oral hygiene care...
