Candle wicks – WEDO cotton lines and wooden wicks
The choice of wick decides whether a candle burns evenly, forms an adequate wax pool without tunnelling and releases its fragrance fully. The category holds 110 items: cotton wicks from the WEDO EKO, Stabilo and LX lines, wooden wicks in flat, cross, spiral, crackling, quiet and Booster versions, and alongside them holders, tabs and stands for precise centring. Every product is supplied with SDS and COA documentation, and pack sizes run from a single sample to wholesale.
Cotton wicks – the all-round choice
Cotton wicks work for container and pillar candles alike, burn with a steady, quiet flame and are easy to fine-tune thanks to the wide range of sizes. The WEDO EKO line offers sizes Eko-1 to Eko-14, WEDO Stabilo covers sizes 2 to 20 including versions without a tab and for tea lights, and WEDO LX adds sizes 14, 20 and 24. With higher fragrance loads or dark colours, consider going one size up.
Wooden wicks – a flame with character
Wooden wicks bring a refined look and the characteristic crackle; quiet versions without the crackling are available too. They suit soy and blended waxes above all, and in larger widths they help create a wide pool even without pairing two cotton wicks. Choose from flat, cross and spiral shapes and from the higher-output Booster and Ultimate versions.
How to choose the wick size
- Container diameter: at 6 – 7 cm reach for the smaller sizes, 7 – 9 cm is handled by the middle ones, and above 9 cm choose the larger sizes, or a cross or doubled wooden wick.
- Type of wax: soy wax usually needs a wick one step stronger than paraffin, and blended waxes sit between the two.
- Fragrance and colourant: a higher fragrance percentage and dark pigments can damp the flame – consider a larger size or a wooden Booster.
- Burn test: test every formulation with the actual fragrance and colour; watch the flame height and the pool width after 2 – 3 hours.
- Trimming: trim the wick to roughly 5 mm before each lighting – it limits both sooting and mushrooming.
Centring and assembly
The work is made easier by 1.5 cm metal wick tabs and, for wooden wicks, by metal stands to match the shape – for flat and for cross versions. Precise centring and a wick held upright during pouring mean a steady flame and an even pool. You will find further equipment among the candle making tools and the complete range in the candle making branch.

How do I choose between a cotton and a wooden wick?
Cotton is the all-round option: it burns with a quiet flame and can be tuned precisely through the sizes of the WEDO EKO, Stabilo and LX lines. Wood brings the crackle and a refined look and suits wider containers and soy or blended waxes. Decide by the container diameter, the type of wax and the fragrance profile.
Why does the same wick burn differently in every fragrance?
The composition of the fragrance, its concentration and the presence of colourants change the viscosity and the evaporation of the fuel. Test every fragrance separately at its actual dosage and with the colour in place – often a small change of wick size or type is all it takes.
When should I reach for a wooden Booster or a cross wick?
When the container is wide, the fragrance heavy or the wax harder to melt. Booster and cross versions raise the heat output and the width of the wax pool while keeping the character of a wooden flame.
How do I prevent sooting and mushrooming with cotton wicks?
Trim the wick to roughly 5 mm before each lighting and consider a smaller size or an adjustment to the fragrance or colourant dose. With soy waxes a slight cap on the wick is normal; trimming properly keeps it to a minimum.
