RAW MATERIALS

Raw materials for the production of fizz

Are you also enchanted by the pictures and videos of beautiful bubble baths? Would you like to make some original ones for yourself, but don't know where to start? We offer you an overview of the basic ingredients for making homemade cosmetic bubblers. From now on, you can make your own bubbles in the comfort of your own home. All you need are three basic ingredients!

Citric acid

The first basic ingredient for making fizz is citric acid. In cosmetics, its anhydrous form or monohydrate is commonly used , and we will present their differences below. Let's now look at the general properties of citric acid, regardless of the water content of its molecule.

Citric acid is a organic acid, commonly found in citrus fruits and is a white crystalline substance. It is readily soluble in water; aqueous solutions of it are used to regulate the pH of products.

Its uses in cosmetics include the ability of citric acid to lower pH, providing a reaction with bases such as baking soda, which is used in the production of fizzy drinks. At the same time, due to its ability to lower pH, it also helps preserve cosmetics in part, but is not a substitute for preservatives.

In fizzies, citric acid reacts with baking soda to releaseCO2, creating a foaming reaction. It helps to achieve the bubble effect when bathing.

Anhydrous citric acid and monohydrate - differences

The difference between anhydrous citric acid and citric acid monohydrate lies primarily in the water content of these forms.

Anhydrous citric acid is a pure form of citric acid without water. It is mainly used in cases where precise control of the water content of the formulation is important. In contrast, citric acid monohydrate contains one molecule of water per molecule of citric acid.

Both forms of citric acid, i.e. anhydrous and monohydrate, can be used in the manufacture of fizzy bombs. In most cases, the choice between the two is more a matter of preference and specific recipe requirements. Below you will find some factors that may influence your choice.

  • Solubility: monohydrate is more soluble in water, while the anhydrous form is less hygroscopic (absorbs less water) and is not as quickly soluble. If you want a fizzy bomb to dissolve quickly in water, monohydrate may be a better choice.

  • Water content: anhydrous citric acid does not contain water, which may be desirable if you are trying to minimize the presence of water in your product. Monohydrate contains one molecule of water per molecule of citric acid.

  • Availability: In some cases, one form may be more readily available than the other. Therefore, your decision may be influenced by what is available to you. In most cases, substituting one form of citric acid for another will not cause a significant change in the recipe.

Both forms are safe for use in cosmetic products, including fizzy bombs, as long as proper dosage and workplace safety is observed. Try both forms and see which suits you better given your preferences and requirements for the final product.

Baking soda (baking soda)

Baking soda is another substance necessary to create the base for fizzies. I'm sure many of you will find it in your kitchen, but let's now take a look at its use in cosmetics.

Baking soda is an alkaline substance, so when it comes in contact with water, it helps raise the pH of aqueous solutions. For this reason, it is used in cosmetics to regulate pH, in addition to fizzies, as handling it requires less safety precautions compared to sodium hydroxide. Baking soda is in fact a carbonate.

In addition, baking soda is also popular for making homemade cleaning products, it is also used to wash hair in the shampoo-free method.

In shampoos, baking soda is an alkaline ingredient that reacts with citric acid. On contact with water, it releases the aforementionedCO2 and forms bubbles.

Corn starch

The last ingredient that forms the basis of fizzy drinks is corn starch. Of course, you can reach for other types of starch, but cornstarch is readily available and fine enough to create the desired texture of the fizz.

Corn starch is a fine white powder that is also used in food processing. Its main properties are its ability to bind oil and grease, thus naturally degreasing the skin. That is why it finds its application in baby and face powders, dry shampoos or even body butters to relieve the oily feeling on the skin.

Corn starch can be found in many dry and powder cosmetic products, as well as in pure oil-based products. It helps to control skin shine, and so you can't do without it when making decorative cosmetics. Further, it is very gentle on the skin, and so it finds its use in children's lotions as well.

In fizzy drinks, cornstarch can be added to soften and improve the texture of the fizzy drinks. It is also absorbent and thus binds the oils added in the production of the fizzy drinks.

Making homemade fizz - tips and tricks

When making homemade bubbly for your bath, it is important to follow a few precautions and take a few factors into consideration. The following lines give an overview of the things you should look out for.

  • Working conditions: work in a well-ventilated environment to minimize dust inhalation, especially when handling powdered ingredients such as soda, citric acid and cornstarch.

  • Skin protection: Wear gloves to protect the skin of your hands when handling chemicals. Soda, citric acid or essential oils can be particularly irritating to sensitive skin, so take care to protect your hands.

  • Respiratory protection: if you work with powdered raw materials, be sure to wear a respirator or other protective mask to minimize dust inhalation.

  • Accurate measuring and weighing: It is important to accurately measure and weigh raw materials to achieve the correct ratio and consistency of the substances in your mix.

  • Use only safe and non-hazardous rawmaterials. Make sure that the raw materials you use are intended for cosmetic use and are not out of warranty.

  • Storage: Store the effervescents in a dry place to prevent premature activation.

Using the finished bubbly is easy, simply drop it into water and enjoy a bubble bath with a pleasant scent and the addition of moisturizing oils. Remember, you can customize the scent and color to your preference by adding different essential oils and colorants such as mica powders.
