Azeloglycine, reduction of skin sebum, 1 kg

Azeloglycine is a water-soluble active ingredient derived from azelaic acid and glycine, intended primarily for formulations for oily, problem-prone and acne-prone skin. In a formulation, it helps regulate sebum production, supports a more even skin tone and promotes hydration. The manufacturer describes it as an ingredient that does not irritate the skin or mucous membranes.

It is easy to work with. It dissolves directly in the water phase, tolerates both acidic and alkaline environments and is suitable for rinse-off and leave-on products. It can be incorporated into a serum, tonic or cleansing gel without emulsification and without further processing.

Suitable applications

• Sebum regulation – reduces excess skin oiliness, resulting in less shine throughout the day. It is most effective in tonics, lightweight gel creams and serums for oily and combination skin.
• More even skin tone – the manufacturer classifies it among brightening ingredients. In a cosmetic formulation, it helps reduce the visibility of pigmentation spots and uneven discolouration.
• Hydration and elasticity – according to the manufacturer's data, it acts as a humectant and supports skin elasticity. It is therefore also suitable for formulations for oily skin that lacks hydration.
• Good tolerability – the manufacturer states that it does not irritate the skin or mucous membranes, which is important for an active ingredient targeting acne-prone skin.

Use in formulation

It is supplied as a clear aqueous solution of yellow to brown colour, odourless, with an active ingredient content of 28 – 30 %. The recommended dosage of 3 – 10 % refers to the solution as supplied, not to the pure substance. It is added to the water phase, and in emulsions during the cooling phase, when the temperature drops below 40 °C.

The formulation can have a pH in the range of 5 – 11. Such a range allows it to be used in cleansing gels and foams with alkaline pH.

• Serums and tonics for oily and acne-prone skin – water-based without the need for emulsification.
• Gels and gel creams – lightweight textures for oily and combination skin.
• O/W emulsions – lightweight day and night creams, added during the cooling phase.
• Cleansing gels and foams – rinse-off products that benefit from stability at alkaline pH.
• Formulations for uneven skin tone – in combination with other water-soluble brightening ingredients.

Good to know

Azeloglycine is a potassium salt, i.e. an electrolyte. With thickeners sensitive to electrolytes, we recommend verifying the viscosity and clarity of the finished gel after adding it. It is intended for aqueous systems and is not suitable for anhydrous formulations, oil serums or balms.

The solution contains a preservative component to protect the raw material itself. However, a finished aqueous formulation must be preserved separately according to the complete recipe.

The raw material holds Halal certification, contains no materials of animal origin and the manufacturer has not tested it on animals. It should be stored in a tightly sealed container, in a cool place and protected from light, heat, moisture and frost.
