Product description
Vitamin B3, also known as nicotinamide or niacinamide, is a water‑soluble form of B‑group vitamin. In cosmetic grade it is produced by controlled chemical synthesis or biotechnological processes based on nicotinic acid, resulting in a highly pure, stable active ingredient that is very well tolerated by the skin.
Unlike nicotinic acid, it does not cause the so‑called “flush effect” (transient skin redness), which makes it one of the most versatile and most widely used active ingredients in modern cosmetics.
Key benefits
- Support of the skin barrier – increases ceramide synthesis and reduces transepidermal water loss.
- Regulation of sebum production – suitable for oily and acne‑prone skin.
- Evening out skin tone – helps reduce hyperpigmentation and uneven coloration.
- Anti‑inflammatory effect – soothes redness and sensitive skin.
- Support of skin vitality – contributes to better elasticity and the overall appearance of the skin.
Suitable for products such as
- facial serums and creams for problematic and oily skin,
- products for sensitive and reactive skin,
- anti‑aging formulations,
- products targeting skin brightening,
- body lotions and creams.
Use in formulation
- soluble in water,
- compatible with most common cosmetic raw materials,
- miscible with moisturizing agents, antioxidants and botanical extracts,
- recommended usage level: usually 2–5 % (depending on the product type).
It is recommended to add it during the cooling phase (at a temperature below 40 °C).
Safety and storage
- Vitamin B3 is generally considered a very well tolerated cosmetic raw material.
- At higher concentrations it may exceptionally cause slight irritation in very sensitive skin.
- Store in a dry, cool place, in a well‑closed container, protected from moisture.
In most cases yes, because it is a non‑irritating form of vitamin B3. However, it is recommended to start with a lower concentration.
Yes, but in the formulation it is necessary to monitor the pH to avoid a decrease in stability or skin comfort.
It has only a mild effect on pH, but its control is recommended especially for products with an acidic environment.
Yes, it is also used in shampoos and scalp tonics to support the balance of the scalp.
With proper formulation and storage, it is a stable active ingredient suitable even for products intended for long‑term use.
