Product description

The blue glass and the dropper make this 100 ml bottle a packaging choice for products that are dispensed drop by drop and should not be exposed to light. The pharmaceutical bottle shape with a narrow neck suits facial and hair oils, serums, tinctures and blends of essential oils in a carrier oil. With these products, the customer needs to measure out a few drops rather than pour the contents out through the neck.

The set consists of a blue glass bottle and a black dropper with tamper-evident ring, whose length is matched to the height of this bottle. Both the bottle and the dropper are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The set as a whole is intended for cosmetics and has no certificate for food contact.

What the set offers

  • Protection from light – the blue glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, which matters for oils prone to oxidation and for extracts whose colour and fragrance change in light.
  • Drop-by-drop dispensing – the glass tube of the dropper with a silicone bulb draws the contents straight from the bottle, the drops can be counted and the neck stays clean.
  • Tamper-evident ring – the ring under the closure shows whether the packaging has already been opened. It is useful when selling finished products and when giving them as gifts.
  • Glass does not absorb the contents – the bottle does not take on the fragrance or colour of oils and, once cleaned, can be filled with a different formulation.

What it is suitable for

The 100 ml volume suits products that are used up regularly and in larger amounts than smaller bottles allow. These include body and hair oils, massage blends, oil serums for the face, macerated oil extracts, herbal tinctures dispensed by the drop into water, and diluted blends of essential oils in a carrier oil. The dropper also copes with water-based serums and toners with a light texture. Thick gels, creams and foams cannot be drawn up with it, and a jar or a pump is better for those. The set is not suitable for spraying; bottles with a sprayer are intended for that.

Nominal volume and brimful capacity

The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume up to the neck and can be found in the parameters. The difference is a reserve for the dropper tube, which displaces part of the contents upwards when screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. For this reason, fill only up to the nominal volume.

When filling, leave free space in the neck and insert the dropper slowly. If the bottle is filled to the brim, the contents are pushed out through the thread when the dropper is screwed in, and the dropper is then sticky every time the bottle is opened.

Preparation before filling and reuse

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry upside down. Take the dropper apart, rinse the tube and let it dry thoroughly before reassembling. Water trapped in the bulb would otherwise get into the contents. Glass withstands repeated cleaning without change. When reusing the dropper, check that the bulb still draws up the liquid and that the seal in the closure holds.

With concentrated essential oils, strongly pigmented extracts or blends with a higher proportion of alcohol, we recommend testing how the bulb and the dropper seal behave with the specific formulation. The bottle is sorted as glass. The dropper is made of several materials and is separated from the bottle during recycling.

Do not fill the bottle with hot contents. A sudden change in temperature puts stress on the glass, so let the oil phase or macerate cool to room temperature before filling.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the blue glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents and slows the changes that light causes in oils and extracts. It does not, however, replace an antioxidant or preservation; contents sensitive to oxidation still need a suitable composition. It is still better to store the bottle away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
How much can actually be poured into a 100 ml bottle with a dropper?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 100 ml, even though it physically holds a little more. The remaining space under the neck is a reserve for the dropper tube and for the expansion of the contents. If it is filled to the brim, the contents are pushed out through the thread when the dropper is inserted and the closure stops sealing.
Can the dropper also dispense a thicker oil?
Yes, the dropper also draws up thicker vegetable oils, only more slowly, and each drop takes longer to form. Very thick oils, gels and emulsions pass into the tube with difficulty and the dispensing is inaccurate. For such formulations, it is better to dilute them with a lighter oil or to choose packaging with a pump.
Is the blue bottle with a dropper suitable for water-based serums and tinctures with alcohol?
Yes, glass tolerates water-based, alcohol-based and oil-based contents without change. With tinctures and serums containing a higher proportion of alcohol, we recommend testing how the silicone bulb and the dropper seal behave with the given formulation. Water-based contents require preservation and clean filling; the packaging itself does not protect them from microbial growth.
How are the bottle and the dropper cleaned before reuse?
Wash the bottle with warm water and a cleaning product, rinse it, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Take the dropper apart, rinse the tube and the bulb separately and reassemble only once they are dry. If the bulb has changed colour, gone soft or stopped drawing up the liquid, replace it with a new dropper with the same neck type from the Handymade range.
