Product description
Glass dropper bottle in shiny black glass is a complete set for precise dispensing of liquid cosmetic preparations. The opaque glass fully shields the contents from light, which you will appreciate with facial oils, serums and concentrates containing ingredients that lose their efficacy in light. The dropper takes exactly as much as you need at any time, without spilling and without finger contact with the contents.
The set consists of a medicine-bottle-shaped flask with a smooth glossy surface and a dropper with a glass tube, silicone bulb and black plastic screw ring with a tamper-evident ring. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The flask has a separate certificate for direct food contact; the complete set is intended for cosmetics.
Why black glass and a dropper
- Light protection – opaque black glass transmits less light than brown or blue glass, extending the stability of oils with unsaturated fatty acids, retinoids, vitamin C derivatives and essential oils.
- Precise dispensing – the dropper picks up a few drops or a full column of the tube, the contents do not spill and are not contaminated. The dropper length is matched to the bottle height so it reaches almost to the bottom and dispenses the last of the contents.
- Chemically stable glass – does not react with oils, essential oils, alcohol or acidic or alkaline aqueous solutions. Nothing from the glass migrates into the contents and it does not absorb fragrance.
- Tamper-evident ring – on first unscrewing, the ring separates, so both the customer and manufacturer can see whether the product has already been opened.
- Unified appearance – both components are matched in colour and dimensions. The glossy black bottle with a black dropper looks like finished packaging for a private label without any further adjustments.
How to use the set
The bottle should be filled to the nominal volume, not to the rim. The nominal volume is the quantity the packaging is designed for during normal filling. The total volume to the rim is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is the allowance for the glass tube of the dropper, which on screwing in displaces some of the contents upward, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If you fill the bottle to the neck, the contents will overflow when closing.
The dropper screws onto the neck just like a regular cap. To dispense, squeeze the bulb, submerge the tube in the contents, release and then squeeze again over your palm or the preparation. The dropper is suitable for liquid to slightly viscous contents – oils, serums, tinctures, aqueous and alcoholic solutions. Thick gels and creams cannot be dispensed with it.
Before first filling, wash both the bottle and dropper, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water in the tube would dilute anhydrous contents and promote microbial growth in oil-based preparations.
Closures with the same neck type and further ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. For custom combinations, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing and packaging behaviour with the specific formulation.
Suitable for products such as
- Facial and hair oils – opaque glass slows down oxidation of light-sensitive oils, the dropper dispenses a few drops into the palm.
- Serums with active ingredients – both water-based and oil-based serums with vitamins, retinoids or peptides that require protection from light.
- Essential oil blends and perfume concentrates – glass does not absorb fragrance and the silicone bulb tolerates essential oils better than standard rubber.
- Tinctures and alcoholic extracts – the alcoholic contents do not harm the glass and the dropper dispenses precisely.
- Oil conditioners for beard and cuticles – smaller doses applied directly to the area of use.
Good to know
Opaque glass has one practical drawback – you cannot see the level or any changes in the contents. When filling, measure the volume beforehand and estimate the remainder by weight or by how much the dropper picks up. Preparations where you need to monitor turbidity, phase separation or sediment are better suited to a clear bottle.
The dropper is not a closure for long-term storage of volatile contents. Alcoholic tinctures and essential oil blends that are to be stored for months should be stored upright with the dropper tightened all the way. For transport and longer storage of a full bottle, a standard cap with the same neck type works well; fit the dropper only when you start using the product.
Glass cannot withstand sudden temperature changes. Let a hot oil phase or freshly prepared extract cool to room temperature before filling, otherwise the bottle may crack. Similarly, do not put a full bottle directly from the refrigerator into warm water.
The bottle can be reused. After emptying, wash it with warm water and washing-up liquid; ethanol helps with oily residues. Leave to dry upside down. Disassemble the dropper into the tube, bulb and ring, rinse and dry separately; no water should remain in the silicone bulb. The glossy glass surface holds labels well and light or metallic printing stands out against the black background.
The bottle goes into glass recycling. The dropper is a composite product made of glass, silicone and plastic; before disposal, separate it from the bottle and dispose of each component according to its material.
