Product description
A glass dropper bottle with a volume of 15 ml is a complete set for precise dosing of small amounts of liquid preparations. Blue glass reduces light exposure to the contents, which is valuable for ingredients sensitive to light and oxidation. The set is particularly suitable for facial serums, facial oils, oil blends with essential oils, tinctures and concentrated active ingredients that are dosed drop by drop and consumed gradually.
The bottle shape is referred to as a medicine bottle. This is a name for the shape with a straight body and narrow neck, not a designation of purpose. The black glossy dropper is sized to match the height of the bottle, so the glass tube reaches almost to the bottom and the contents can be dispensed right to the end.
Why choose this set
- Light protection – blue glass limits light penetration to the contents. Vegetable oils, essential oils, vitamins and plant extracts are better protected in a darker container from light that accelerates their degradation.
- Precise dosing – the dropper dispenses the contents drop by drop. This is useful for concentrated preparations where the dose is counted in individual drops, such as serums or oil blends.
- Hygienic dispensing – the contents are not poured through the neck and do not come into contact with fingers, which reduces the risk of introducing contaminants into the preparation.
- Glass as an inert material – glass does not react with common cosmetic ingredients and does not absorb the scent or colour of the contents, so the bottle can be reused after thorough cleaning.
- Small volume for trial batches – 15 ml is a suitable amount for testing a new formulation, travel packaging or gift size.
Nominal and total volume
Two volume values are given for the bottle and it is useful to know the difference. Nominal volume is the volume for which the container is intended for normal filling, and the bottle is labelled accordingly. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a margin for the dropper, which after screwing in pushes some of the contents upward, and for the expansion of the contents when temperatures change. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If overfilled, when the dropper is fitted the contents are pushed into the thread and may leak.
For oil-based and alcohol-based preparations, leave sufficient headspace below the neck. After squeezing the bulb and fitting the dropper, the level rises and any contents remaining in the thread will become sticky over time and make opening difficult.
How to use the set
The dropper consists of a glass tube, a flexible bulb and a threaded collar. The bulb is squeezed before immersing the tube in the contents, the tube is immersed and the bulb is released. The contents are then dispensed by gently squeezing again. After use, the tube is returned to the bottle and the dropper is tightened by hand. Over-tightening does not improve the seal; it only stresses the thread and collar.
Before the first filling we recommend washing, rinsing and disinfecting both the bottle and dropper with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allowing to dry completely. Residual water in the glass tube or thread would enter an anhydrous preparation where it may cause cloudiness or microbiological issues. The same procedure applies when reusing. The dropper bulb is harder to clean than glass, so when changing the type of contents it is better to use a new dropper.
Glass is sensitive to sudden temperature changes. Do not fill the bottle with hot contents immediately after taking it from a cold environment, and do not heat it on a direct heat source. When filling small volumes through a narrow neck, a small funnel or a needleless syringe will help prevent the contents from getting onto the external thread.
For alcohol-based preparations and blends with a higher proportion of essential oils, we recommend verifying the behaviour of the bulb and dropper seal with the specific formulation before filling a larger batch. Some solvents and concentrated essential oils may stress the flexible material over time.
Suitability for cosmetics
The dropper has a declaration of suitability for use with cosmetic products and meets the relevant legislative requirements. The bottle is supplied in cosmetic and technical quality, but a separate declaration of contact suitability for cosmetics is not available for it, so the complete set as a whole is not declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The declaration of conformity and packaging documentation can be found with the product. The set is not approved for contact with food and is not intended for filling food products.
Closures with the same neck type, listed in the parameters, and other ready-made bottle and closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dosing and packaging behaviour with the specific formulation.
Labelling and recycling
The straight body of the bottle labels well. For oil-based preparations, we recommend a label with grease-resistant adhesive and applying it to clean, degreased glass. The bottle goes in glass recycling. The dropper consists of several materials, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.
