Product description

The blue glass bottle with inner dropper with a capacity of 15 ml dispenses liquid preparations drop by drop. The set consists of a glass pharmaceutical bottle, a long plastic inner dropper fitted into the neck and a white screw cap. Coloured glass limits the passage of light, so this bottle is used for contents that quickly lose their scent or effect in light: essential oils and their blends, facial oils, thin serums or tinctures. The small volume also suits samples, travel packs and preparations that are used up drop by drop over several weeks.

How the set works

The inner dropper is pressed into the neck of the bottle and stays in it permanently. The contents are dispensed by tilting the bottle, with a light tap if needed, and come out in individual drops. The cap is screwed on over the inner dropper and closes the bottle during storage and transport. The opening of the inner dropper is narrow, so the contents do not pour out when the bottle is inverted, and fingers or a larger amount of air do not get into the bottle during use.

Drop-by-drop dispensing works with thin liquids. Thick gel-like serums or heavily thickened oils flow slowly or not at all through the inner dropper. For such preparations, a bottle with a pump or a jar is more suitable.

What it is suitable for

Essential oils and blends – the inner dropper lets you count out the exact number of drops for a formulation or a diffuser.
Facial and massage oils in a small pack – 15 ml is a trial or travel quantity, and the oil is applied drop by drop directly onto the palm.
Thin serums and oil concentrates – the contents are dispensed without touching the neck, which reduces the risk of impurities getting into the rest of the contents.
Tinctures and alcohol-based preparations – drop dispensing is common for these, and we recommend testing how the plastic inner dropper behaves with your specific contents beforehand.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume of 15 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The brimful capacity given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the top of the neck and is larger. The difference provides a reserve for the inner dropper, which takes up part of the space in the neck once inserted, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes.

Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents are pushed out when the inner dropper is pressed in, and when warmed they may leak out from under the cap.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the plastic parts, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the neck or in the inner dropper would get into oil-based contents and could spoil them.

After thorough cleaning, the glass can be reused. Once removed from the neck, the inner dropper is harder to clean of oil residues, so fit a new one when changing the contents. The 18/410 neck finish is standard; other closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

The inner dropper is made of polypropylene and the cap of polyethylene. With concentrated essential oils, citrus oils and alcohol-based contents, we recommend testing how the plastic parts behave on one bottle before filling the whole batch.

The inner dropper and the cap have a declaration of suitability for contact with cosmetic products; the glass bottle itself does not. The set is not intended for contact with food. Glass belongs in glass recycling, and the inner dropper and cap are sorted as plastic.

Can the inner dropper be removed and the bottle refilled?

Yes, the inner dropper can be pried out of the neck, for example with a thin spatula or a pointed tool. When removed, it often deforms slightly and may not seal as well when inserted again. For repeated filling, we therefore recommend washing and disinfecting the glass bottle and fitting a new inner dropper.

Is the plastic inner dropper suitable for pure essential oils?

An inner dropper made of polypropylene is commonly used with essential oils, but compatibility with every oil is not guaranteed. Citrus oils and some concentrated blends may soften or discolour the plastic over time. We recommend filling one bottle first, leaving it to stand for several weeks and checking that the inner dropper still seals and has not changed shape.

Why does a thicker serum not come out of the inner dropper?

The opening of the inner dropper is narrow and is designed for thin liquids. Gel serums, preparations with a thickener or firmer oils pass through it very slowly when cold. For this kind of consistency, a bottle with a pump is more suitable, or you can try warming the bottle in your hands before use.
