Soy Wax EcoSoya CB 135 is a natural soy-based wax, specially designed for the production of high-quality container candles. This wax is 100% natural and biodegradable, representing an ecological alternative to paraffin waxes. When cured, it leaves a beautiful smooth, white-colored surface.
It is very easy to use, the containers do not need to be preheated and in most cases a single pour is sufficient.
It is manufactured in the United Kingdom. The wax is produced also from soybeans that are GMO, however GMO is not present in the wax itself (it is measured only in proteins).
This wax is excellent for making natural candles without coloring and it holds fragrance exceptionally well. It is compatible with most fragrance and essential oils, achieving the best results specifically with fragrances that are intended directly for soy waxes. There is no need to add any additional additives. Parts of candles can be remelted and reused, but heating the wax above 85°C is not recommended.
Before you start with candle making, study the manufacturing process in detail and test every new combination (whether container, wick, fragrance, color, or blends of different waxes) on one small candle and perform a burn test. Only when the burn result is fully satisfactory should you begin producing candles in larger quantities. In this way you will avoid unnecessary disappointment and the devaluation of a large amount of material.
How to melt the wax: Weigh out the wax and make sure that you are melting the amount needed for your mould. We recommend melting the wax and keeping it warm at a temperature of around 70°C. Continuous stirring during melting is important to prevent scorching. Just before the wax is completely melted, it is recommended to reduce the heating power. Avoid prolonged heating of the wax above 90°C.
How to color the wax: If you want to color the wax using special candle dyes, we recommend using EcoSoya CB-Advanced wax. EcoSoya CB-135 is excellent for making natural candles without added colorants. Adding colorants causes the so-called frosting effect.
How to add fragrances: You can add fragrance to candles using essential or fragrance oils, or a combination of both. Before using the fragrances themselves, make sure they are fully oil-soluble (all fragrances from our range can be used in candles and are oil-soluble). The amount depends on the type of fragrance used. In general, fragrance oils are much more concentrated and therefore a smaller amount is sufficient compared to essential oils. Fragrance oils are pre-blended fragrance compositions, whereas essential oils are pure single-note fragrances that we recommend blending to achieve an ideal result. You can read more about the difference between fragrance oils and essential oils in the articles Fragrance Oils and Essential Oils. For this type of wax, 5 - 10 % of fragrant components is ideal. It is ideal to add the fragrant components just before pouring the wax into containers. After adding the fragrance, we recommend stirring the wax for 1–2 minutes to achieve optimal dispersion of the fragrance.
How to choose the right wick: The optimal wick size depends on the final dimensions of the candle. Place the wick in the center of the mould. In general, candles with a larger diameter require a stronger wick or the use of more than one wick. In addition, blends of vegetable waxes have a much higher viscosity than paraffin waxes and therefore need stronger burning wicks. We strongly emphasize that each combination of wick and wax must be thoroughly tested before you start manufacturing candles. Since wick burning is influenced, in addition to the candle diameter and type of wax used, also by the type and amount of added colorants, we cannot guarantee correct and trouble-free burning for every combination. The final wick choice should always be confirmed by individual testing by the customer. We recommend performing the first test using only pure wax and, if you are satisfied with the burn results, gradually adding various concentrations of fragrances and colorants. It is also very useful to store individual samples for a certain period of time so that you can return to the individual combinations later.
Mould preparation: Moulds should be clean, dry and free from any contamination. They should be at least at room temperature, but warming them to approximately 45–50°C brings advantages in the form of easy removal of candles from the moulds.
Pouring the wax: We recommend pouring the melted and heated wax, supplemented with the desired fragrances, at a temperature of 60°C into the moulds, or immediately after adding and thoroughly mixing in the fragrances. The specific pouring temperature of the wax should be adapted to the room temperature and other individual conditions. However, the time during which the wax is held at an elevated temperature should be minimized – this will prevent the loss of the top notes of your fragrances as well as the formation of cracks and cavities during cooling.
Cooling the wax: After pouring the wax into the container with the wick, it must be allowed to cool gradually. Rapid cooling can cause the formation of cracks and cavities. Let the candle stand for at least 24 hours before its first lighting. If a crack or a small cavity (the center sinks) appears on the candle surface, finish the candle by pouring a small amount of melted wax onto the surface or by heating the surface of the candle with a heat gun.
The wax is biodegradable and also suitable for vegans. No animal products are used in its production and no tests on animals have been carried out. This wax is supplied in flake form.
More detailed information about the quality of the product can be found in the certificate, which we update with each new batch. All supplied raw materials are of cosmetic grade, not suitable for internal use. Use appropriate protective equipment when handling.
