Product description

A small glass bottle with a frosted finish and a white lotion pump is designed for thicker preparations that are dispensed in small doses: eye creams, higher-viscosity serums, light creams, and travel or sample sizes. With normal use, the 15 ml volume is used up within a few weeks, so it also suits active formulations where you do not want to mix a large batch in advance.

The frosted glass remains see-through, so you can check the level without opening the bottle. The pump dispenses the contents when you press the head, so the preparation is not taken out with your fingers from an open container. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. It is not intended for contact with food.

How the set works

The pump has a dip tube that draws the contents from the bottom. One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml, which for an eye cream or a concentrated serum corresponds to a single application. With thicker creams, the dose varies slightly depending on viscosity. When using the pump for the first time, press the head several times without product until the pump primes.

The tube is supplied longer than the height of the bottle. Before fitting, it must be trimmed so that it ends just above the bottom. A tube that is too long bends and the pump draws less effectively.

Fill the bottle to the nominal volume of 15 ml, not to the brim. The total brimful volume is slightly larger, and the difference is a reserve for the pump tube. If you fill to the brim, part of the contents will be pushed out when you screw on the pump and will make the thread sticky.

What it is suitable for

  • Eye creams and lip-area creams – a small amount, precise dispensing, and contents protected from contact with fingers.
  • Thicker serums and gel creams – frosted glass is not fully clear, so it scatters some of the light that would otherwise reach the contents.
  • Light to medium-thick emulsions – face creams, travel-size hand creams, and night creams with a higher proportion of active ingredients.
  • Samples and test batches – when developing a formulation, it is enough to mix 15 ml and monitor stability in the actual packaging.

The pump will not draw very thick ointments, balms with a high proportion of butters, or anhydrous products that solidify at room temperature. A jar is more suitable for these.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and let it dry completely. It is enough to rinse the pump with warm water and let it drain. The inside of the pump takes longer to dry, so let it stand with the head facing down before filling.

A pump with a dip tube is not an airless system. Air enters the bottle with every press, so preparations with a water phase need preservation just as they would in a jar. Oil serums without water do not need a preservative, but an antioxidant will slow down oxidation.

Do not pour a hot mixture straight from the water bath into the glass; fill the emulsion only once it has cooled. The pump is made of polypropylene. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend testing how the pump and head behave on a single sample over several weeks.

The pump works only when it is screwed on firmly and the tube does not touch the bottom. A loose thread or a bent tube is the most common reason why the pump does not dispense the contents.

The bottle can be reused; once it is empty, simply wash and disinfect it again. You will find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation. At the end of its life, the glass is sorted separately and the pump belongs with plastics.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 15 ml glass bottle with a pump suitable for eye cream?
Yes, a 15 ml glass bottle with a lotion pump is a suitable format for eye cream. One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml, which is a small amount for a single application, and the contents do not touch your fingers when you take them out. The cream must have a consistency the pump can draw, that is, a light to medium-thick emulsion rather than a solid balm.
Does the frosted glass of the 15 ml bottle protect the contents from light?
Only partly. The frosted surface scatters some of the light, but it is not a substitute for dark amber or blue glass. For serums with vitamin C, retinoids, or other light-sensitive ingredients, keep in mind that the bottle still needs to be stored out of direct sunlight.
Why is a glass bottle with a pump not filled to the brim?
The nominal volume of 15 ml is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The space above this level is left for the pump tube. If you fill to the brim, part of the contents will be pushed out when you screw on the pump and will make the thread sticky.
Can a lotion pump be used for a liquid serum or oil?
The pump will also draw thinner contents, but it is designed for creams. With thin oils and watery serums, the dose spurts out faster, is harder to control, and some of it may splash outside where you want it. For liquid serums, a dropper is more precise; for thin oils, use a pump designed for liquids.
How do I clean the glass bottle and pump before reusing them?
Wash the bottle in warm water with a cleaning product, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and let it dry. Rinse the pump by pressing the head several times in warm water, then let it drain with the head facing down. Residues of cream in the tube and pump cannot be checked reliably, so when changing formulation we recommend using a new pump instead.
Is the glass bottle with a pump suitable for homemade oils or food?
No. Neither the bottle nor the pump has a certificate for contact with food, and the set is intended exclusively for cosmetic preparations. For filling edible oils, syrups, or herbal infusions, choose packaging that lists suitability for food contact in its parameters.
