Product description

The glass bottle with a 10 ml volume and a white lotion pump is intended for filling with small quantities of creams, emulsions and gels that are meant to be dispensed by pressing, without opening the packaging. It is suitable for eye creams, samples of your own formulations, travel packs, or for testing a new emulsion before producing a larger batch. The clear glass lets you see both the colour and the consistency of the contents. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products; it is not intended for food.

How the set is used

The pump screws onto the bottle neck with an 18 mm thread and draws the contents up through a tube from the bottom. One press releases approximately 0.14 ml, which for an eye cream or a concentrated emulsion corresponds to roughly one application. The contents do not come into contact with your fingers during use, which reduces the risk of dirt from the hands getting into emulsions with a water phase. This does not replace preserving the formulation; the pump only limits contact between the contents and the surroundings.

The tube is supplied longer than the height of the bottle. Before the first assembly, cut it with a straight cut so that it ends just above the bottom. A tube that is too long bends when the pump is screwed on, and the pump then does not work reliably. A tube that is too short leaves part of the contents at the bottom, which cannot be drawn out.

Cut the tube before screwing the pump onto the filled bottle. If you shorten it on an already assembled set, plastic trimmings can easily get into the contents.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 10 ml is the quantity the bottle is intended for during normal filling. The brimful volume, given in the parameters, is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the tube and the lower part of the pump, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. Fill up to the nominal volume. If the bottle is filled to the brim, the tube displaces the contents out through the neck when the pump is screwed on.

Fill emulsions only after they have cooled completely to room temperature. Warm contents have a larger volume; after cooling in a closed bottle the level drops, and the pump may draw in air during the first presses.

What it is suitable for

  • Eye creams and contour creams – small doses and contents that do not come into contact with your fingers during application.
  • Samples – a volume of 10 ml is enough for customers to try a formulation or to compare two variants of an emulsion.
  • Light to medium-thick emulsions and gels – they pass through the tube and the mechanism without jamming.
  • Travel pack – a glass bottle with a screwed-on pump does not open in a bag as easily as a jar.

Very thick balms, anhydrous butters and products with solid particles (scrubs, preparations with powder ingredients) are dispensed poorly through a lotion pump or clog the mechanism. For thicker formulations, we recommend checking how the pump behaves with the specific formulation before filling a whole series.

Good to know

  • Light – clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Formulations with sensitive ingredients, for example with vitamin C, retinol or a higher proportion of vegetable oils prone to oxidation, belong in amber glass or should be stored away from light.
  • Preparation before the first filling – wash the bottle, disinfect it and let it dry completely. Pump a disinfecting solution and then clean water through the tube and the pump. Water residues inside would dilute the first doses.
  • Reuse – the glass can be washed and used again. The pump is harder to clean, especially after creams with a higher oil content. Pumping warm water with a cleaning product through it, followed by clean water, is usually enough; otherwise it is better to replace the pump.
  • Other closures – the bottle has the standard neck type given in the parameters; other closures with the same neck and ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with the specific formulation.
  • Recycling – the glass bottle and the polypropylene pump are sorted separately; before disposal, simply unscrew the pump.

Frequently asked questions

Does the clear 10 ml glass bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass lets light through. It is therefore suitable for formulations where light is not a problem, or for products that are kept in a box or in the dark. Creams with sensitive active ingredients or with oils prone to oxidation are better filled into amber glass, which blocks most of the light.
How much cream does the white pump dispense per press?
Approximately 0.14 ml per full press. The actual amount depends on the thickness of the contents and on whether the pump was completely primed before use. When using it for the first time, press the pump several times until the tube fills. With light emulsions the dose tends to be more precise than with thick creams.
Can the glass bottle with a pump be filled to the brim?
No, fill it up to the nominal volume of 10 ml. The space between the nominal volume and the neck is taken up by the tube with the lower part of the pump, and it leaves a reserve for the expansion of the contents. If the bottle is filled to the brim, the contents are pushed out through the neck when the pump is screwed on and soil the thread.
Why is the pump tube longer than the bottle?
The pump is supplied with a universal-length tube, which is cut to the height of the bottle before use. A straight cut just above the bottom ensures that the tube does not bend in the bottle and that almost all of the contents can be used. Cut it before screwing the pump on, so that no plastic trimmings get into the cream.
Is the glass bottle with a pump suitable for thick creams and balms?
Yes for light and medium-thick creams, no for solid balms and anhydrous butters. Thick contents either do not pass through the tube or get stuck in the mechanism, and the pump stops working. It is advisable to check the thickness limit at which the pump still works with the specific formulation on a single piece before filling a whole series.
Can the set be reused after it is empty?
Yes, the glass bottle can be reused after washing and disinfection. Pump warm water with a cleaning product through the pump, then clean water, and let it dry. If residues of the old cream remain in it, or the dispensing has worsened after cleaning, it is safer to use a new pump.
