Product description

The amber plastic medicine bottle with a capacity of 50 ml and a white lotion pump forms ready-made packaging for creams, facial lotions, fluid emulsions and thicker serums. The contents are dispensed by pressing the pump, without opening the bottle. Amber plastic reduces the light reaching the contents, so the set is also suitable for formulations with vegetable oils, vitamins or extracts, which lose quality faster in light. The bottle is lightweight and unbreakable, which you will appreciate with samples, travel sizes or when selling at markets.

The 50 ml volume corresponds to a standard pack of face cream, hand cream or eye serum. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What the set is suitable for

  • Face and eye creams – the pump dispenses a small amount, the contents do not touch your fingers and remain protected from light.
  • Facial lotions and fluid emulsions – thinner textures pass through the tube smoothly and the dose stays even.
  • Thicker serums and gels – for gel textures with higher viscosity, we recommend testing whether the pump draws them up without problems.
  • Hand creams and topical preparations – the small volume and dark packaging suit formulations with light-sensitive active ingredients.

How it dispenses and how to fill it

The lotion pump has an 18 mm thread, which matches the neck of the bottle, and a dip tube. One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml, which is enough for one application of eye cream or serum. For the body, press several times. With solid balms and butters the pump does not draw up the product; a jar is more suitable for them.

Fill the bottle up to the nominal volume. This is the amount the packaging is designed for in normal filling. The total volume up to the neck is larger, and the difference forms a reserve for the tube and the pump body and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If you fill the bottle up to the neck, the contents will leak around the thread after the pump is screwed on.

Before first use, press the pump several times without product until the tube fills. The first presses go to waste; take this into account when calculating the number of doses in the pack.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Moisture left in the tube would get into an emulsion without a preservative.

PET is not intended for hot filling. Let the emulsion cool and only then fill it. Thicker textures are easier to fill into a narrow neck with a syringe or a funnel. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend checking in advance how the plastic and the pump seal behave with your specific formulation.

The bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food. The pump does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

Air drawn in by the pump enters the bottle after each press. The contents are therefore not protected in the same way as in airless packaging; take this into account with emulsions without a preservative.

Once empty, the set can be washed and reused. Rinse the tube and the pump body with warm water and alcohol so that no residues of the previous contents remain. The PET bottle and the PP pump belong in plastic recycling; separate them before disposal. You can find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does an amber plastic medicine bottle with a pump protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber plastic reduces the light reaching the contents, so it slows changes in the colour and scent of oils, extracts and vitamins that are sensitive to it. However, it does not replace an antioxidant in the formulation and will not protect a cream stored in the sun for a long time. For formulations that are not affected by light, the amber colour remains only a matter of appearance.
How many doses does a 50 ml medicine bottle with a white pump give?
Roughly a few hundred presses, as one press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml. The actual number depends on the viscosity of the contents, the amount left in the tube and how many presses one application needs. For eye cream one press is enough; body lotion usually takes more.
Is the lotion pump also suitable for liquid oils?
The pump is designed for creams and emulsions; with thin oils it may drip after pressing and the dose is not accurate. A treatment pump or a dropper is more suitable for oil. If you want to dispense oil with this set, test it first with a small amount to see how the pump head behaves after several uses.
Can I pour cream into a plastic medicine bottle with a pump straight after emulsifying?
No, wait until the emulsion cools to room temperature. PET is not intended for hot filling and hot contents may deform it. A cooled emulsion also has its final viscosity, so you know immediately whether the pump will draw it up.
Is the medicine bottle and pump set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The amber plastic bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the white lotion pump does not. If you need packaging for food use, combine the bottle with a closure that has a food-contact certificate stated in its parameters.
Can a plastic medicine bottle with a pump be washed and reused?
Yes, the bottle and the pump can be reused after thorough washing. Pump warm water with a small amount of cleaning product through the tube and the pump mechanism, rinse with clean water and alcohol, and leave to dry. If hardened cream remains in the mechanism and the pump does not draw up, replace the pump with a new one with the same thread.
