Product description

A white plastic pharmaceutical bottle, 50 ml, with a white lotion pump forms a ready-to-fill set for creams, face lotions and thicker serums. The contents are dispensed by pressing the pump, so you do not need to touch them with your fingers or pour them out during use. White plastic does not let light through to the contents, which you will appreciate with emulsions containing vegetable oils or light-sensitive active ingredients. The bottle is made of PET, is lightweight and suits the bathroom, travel and selling your own cosmetics.

The set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products. Suitability for contact with cosmetics is declared for both the bottle and the pump, and you will find the declaration of conformity with the product.

What it is suitable for

  • Face and body creams – the pump dispenses the contents without finger contact, so the cream is not contaminated with each use as it is with a jar.
  • Face lotions and lighter emulsions – thinner textures flow through the tube without resistance and each dose is the same.
  • Thicker serums and gels – where a dropper can no longer pick up the texture, the pump applies a precise small amount.
  • Samples and travel sizes – the 50 ml volume is enough for testing a formulation or as a smaller pack for customers.

Dispensing and filling

One press of the pump dispenses approximately 0.14 ml. For the face this is a smaller dose that is easy to spread; for a larger area of the body, press the pump several times. Before first use, press the pump a few times without product until the tube fills and the contents start to come out.

When filling, distinguish between the nominal volume and the brimful volume. The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them serves as a reserve for the pump with its tube and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes, so the bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

The lotion pump handles creamy and milky textures. Try very thick ointments, balms with a high wax content or very thin liquids on a single unit first, to check whether the pump draws up the contents and does not leak.

The bottle has a neck with the thread given in the parameters. Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your particular formulation.

Good to know

  • Preparation before filling – wash and disinfect the bottle and let it dry completely. Pump disinfectant solution through the pump and let it drain, so that no liquid remains in the tube.
  • Temperature of the contents – fill the emulsion only after it has cooled. Plastic can deform with hot contents, and negative pressure forms in a closed bottle as it cools.
  • Material sensitivity – PET and PP must not come into contact with aggressive chemicals and solvents. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, check how the packaging behaves before larger-scale filling.
  • Reuse – the bottle and pump can be washed and used again. With thick creams, rinse the pump with warm water straight after emptying; dried residue is hard to remove from the tube.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and the pump of PP; separate them before disposal and sort them as plastic.

The set is not intended for food. Only the bottle itself has a certificate for direct food contact; the lotion pump is declared for cosmetics.

Frequently asked questions

Does the white plastic bottle with a pump protect the contents from light?
Yes, white plastic limits the light reaching the contents more than clear packaging does. It is therefore suitable for emulsions with vegetable oils or active ingredients that break down in light. For particularly light-sensitive raw materials, we also recommend keeping the filled packaging out of direct sunlight.
How much cream does the pump dispense with one press?
One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml. This is a small dose for precise application of face cream or serum. For hands or body, press the pump several times. With a new pump, first press it a few times without product until the tube fills and the contents start to come out.
Why is the bottle with a pump not filled to the brim?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 50 ml, with a reserve above it. This is needed for the pump tube, which displaces part of the contents upwards when the pump is screwed on, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If overfilled, the cream may spill out when closing or the pump may not screw on properly.
Can the plastic bottle with a pump be washed and reused?
Yes, both the bottle and the pump can be washed and refilled. Wash and disinfect the bottle and let it dry. Pump water through the pump and then disinfectant solution, so that the tube is cleaned as well. Clean cream residue straight after emptying; dried residue is hard to remove from the tube.
Is the bottle and pump set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the white bottle separately has a certificate for direct food contact; the lotion pump is declared exclusively for cosmetic products. Use the set for creams, lotions and serums.
Can the lotion pump also handle thick cream or balm?
The pump is intended for creamy and milky textures that it draws up through the tube. Very thick ointments, balms with a high wax content or thickened gels may be hard to dispense or may not dispense at all. Try the consistency on a single unit before filling a larger batch.
