Natural EcoCoco wax is a natural, predominantly coconut wax produced in the United Kingdom. It is specially developed for pouring container candles. This wax does not contain any genetically modified ingredients, soy, palm wax or paraffin products. It is biodegradable and suitable for vegans.
It has a beautiful white colour typical of coconut waxes, a smooth surface already after the first pour and excellent adhesion to glass.
It holds 10 - 12% fragrance and is easy to colour. It is compatible with most fragrance oils and essential oils.
Before you start with candle making, study the manufacturing procedure in detail and test every new combination (whether container, wick, fragrance, colour or blends of different waxes) on one small candle and carry out a burn test. Only when the burn result is fully satisfactory should you start producing candles in larger quantities. This will help you avoid unnecessary disappointment and the devaluation of a large amount of material.
How to melt the wax: We recommend melting the wax and keeping it warm at a temperature of around 70 °C. It is important to stir continuously during melting to prevent scorching. Just before the wax is completely melted, it is recommended to reduce the heating power. Avoid heating the wax above 85 °C for a longer period.
How to colour the wax: If you want to colour the wax using special candle dyes, we recommend briefly increasing the temperature of the wax so that the dyes dissolve and disperse properly. Ideally, mix the dye with a small amount of wax, which is heated to 75 °C and stirred well. This coloured portion is then mixed into the cooler wax, heated to 45 - 60 °C; again, take care to thoroughly mix and incorporate the dye into the wax. The dye must be evenly dispersed.
How to add fragrances: You can add fragrance to the candles by using essential oils or fragrance oils, or a combination of both. Before using the fragrances themselves, check that they are fully oil-soluble (all fragrances in our range can be used in candles and are oil-soluble). The amount depends on the type of fragrance used. In general, fragrance oils are much more concentrated, and therefore a smaller amount is sufficient compared to essential oils. Fragrance oils are pre‑blended fragrance compositions, whereas essential oils are pure single-note fragrances, which we recommend blending to achieve an ideal result. You can read more about the difference between fragrance oils and essential oils in the articles Fragrance oils and Essential oils. This type of wax can carry up to 10 - 12% fragrance components. It is ideal to add fragrance components just before pouring the wax into the containers. After adding the fragrance, we recommend stirring the wax for 1–2 minutes to achieve an ideal dispersion of the fragrance.
How to choose the right wick: The optimal wick size depends on the dimensions of the container used. In general, containers with a larger diameter require a stronger wick or the use of more than one wick. In addition, blends of vegetable waxes have a much higher viscosity than paraffin waxes and therefore require stronger‑burning wicks. We strongly emphasise that every combination of wick, container and wax must be properly tested before you start candle production. Since wick burning is influenced, in addition to the container diameter and the type of wax used, also by the type and amount of dyes added, we cannot guarantee correct and trouble‑free burning for every combination. The final wick selection should always be confirmed by the customer’s individual testing. We recommend carrying out the first test using only pure wax, and if you are satisfied with the burn results, gradually add various concentrations of fragrances and dyes. It is also very useful to keep the individual samples for a certain period so that you can return to the individual combinations later.
Pouring the wax: We recommend pouring the melted and heated wax, supplemented with the desired fragrances and colours, at 60 °C into preheated containers. The specific pouring temperature of the wax must be adapted to the room temperature and also to whether or not you preheat the candle containers. However, the time during which the wax is kept at a higher temperature should be minimised – this will prevent the loss of the top notes of your fragrances and also the formation of cracks and cavities during cooling. If you want to avoid the wax separating from the container walls and to ensure good adhesion, we recommend pouring into containers heated to approx. 45–50 °C and pouring the candles at a temperature as close as possible to the wax solidification temperature (45–55 °C).
Cooling the wax: After pouring the wax into the container with the wick, it must be left to cool down gradually. Rapid cooling can cause the formation of cracks and cavities. Leave the candle to stand for at least 24 hours before lighting it for the first time. If a crack or a small cavity (the centre sinks) appears on the candle surface, finish the candle by pouring a small amount of melted wax onto the surface or by heating the surface of the candle with a hot‑air gun.
