Citronella essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the fresh aerial parts of the plant Cymbopogon winterianus, which belongs to the grass family and is grown mainly in tropical areas of Asia. This oil is known for its intense fresh citrus aroma with subtle herbal and woody undertones. It is used in cosmetics and aromatherapy mainly for its refreshing, cleansing and repellent properties, making it popular in body and skin care products as well as natural insect repellents.
