Vegetable ethanol is a high purity alcohol obtained by fermenting renewable plant sources such as cereals, sugar beet or corn. In cosmetic manufacturing, it performs several roles - acting as a solvent, preservative, disinfectant and carrier of active ingredients. Due to its properties, it is often included in skin tonics, perfumes, disinfectants and hair cosmetics. It is a sustainable alternative to synthetically produced alcohol that combines potency, purity and plant origin.
Naturally sourced - produced by fermentation of plant-based raw materials.
Strong antimicrobial properties, suitable for disinfectant and preservative formulations.
Universal solvent for active ingredients and essential oils.
Evaporates quickly - ideal for perfumes and light sprays.
Improves the stability and durability of cosmetic products.
Perfumes, eau de toilette and colognes.
Facial toners and cleansing lotions.
Disinfectant gels, sprays and solutions.
Hair lotions and styling products.
Cosmetic preparations containing herbal or aromatic extracts.
Solubility: miscible with water, dissolves many essential oils and perfume blends.
Recommended dosage: according to the type of product, often in the range of 1-90%.
Incorporation: added to the aqueous phase or directly to the finished product.
Maximum processing temperature: stable under normal production conditions, resistant to both temperature and rapid evaporation.
Vegetable ethanol is a versatile, naturally derived raw material that brings functionality, stability and sustainability to a wide range of cosmetic products.
Raw material safety grade according to EWG: 2 (low risk)
What is the difference between vegetable ethanol and synthetic ethanol?Vegetable ethanol is produced by fermentation of renewable raw materials (e.g. corn, sugar beet), while synthetic ethanol is a product of the petrochemical industry.
Is vegetable ethanol safe for the skin?Yes, it is safe in recommended concentrations and is used in many cosmetic products. However, at higher doses, it can be drying to the skin.
Is ethanol also used as a preservative?Yes, ethanol has antimicrobial properties and can help stabilize a product, but it is usually combined with other preservatives.
