Product description

Fluidifeel Easy is a plant-derived O/W emulsifier for making emulsions cold, without heating the oil and water phases. It is especially suitable where the aim is a light, fluid or even sprayable texture: body fluids, facial emulsions for sprayers, hair serums and leave-in products with a low oil content.

The emulsifier is nonionic, so it tolerates electrolytes, acidic pH and alcohol. It is approved for COSMOS and NATRUE certification and holds RSPO certification (Mass Balance), which makes it easier to formulate natural cosmetics with certification requirements.

What it brings to your formulation

  • Cold emulsification – it is processed at up to 40 °C, and both phases can be at room temperature. There is no heating or cooling, production is faster, and volatile or heat-sensitive ingredients are not affected.
  • Fluid and sprayable emulsions – the emulsifier alone does not form a thick cream. The final viscosity is determined by the thickener you add to the formulation, so you can adjust the texture from a spray to a light milk.
  • Wide oil compatibility – the manufacturer states that it emulsifies both polar and nonpolar oils. The manufacturer’s sample formulations use vegetable oils, esters and alkanes. For unusual oil phases, we recommend testing stability in your specific formulation.
  • Resistance to electrolytes and alcohol – it allows emulsions with salt-based active ingredients, hydrosols or ethanol, for example in deodorants or refreshing facial sprays.
  • Skin feel – according to the manufacturer’s documentation, the emulsions leave a soft, fresh to powdery feel.
  • Readily biodegradable according to OECD 301.

Use in formulations

The recommended usage rate is 1–3% of the finished formulation, and the manufacturer’s sample formulations cover this entire range. We recommend verifying the exact ratio of emulsifier to oil phase on a small batch.

The procedure is simple. Fluidifeel Easy is mixed with the oil phase (oils, esters, antioxidant), and this mixture is combined with the water phase under constant stirring. The emulsifier is water-soluble, so it can also be added to the water phase or directly when combining the phases. The whole process takes place at room temperature. Preservative, fragrance and heat-sensitive active ingredients are added at the end, since nothing needs to be cooled.

You can disperse the thickener in the water phase or add it to the finished emulsion; the manufacturer’s sample formulations use both methods. The manufacturer states good compatibility with natural gums (for example Solagum AX) and with synthetic polymers (for example Sepimax Zen). In its sample formulations, viscosity ranges approximately from 300 mPa·s for a hair spray to 3 300 mPa·s for a body emulsion, and it is adjusted mainly by the thickener.

The emulsifier works in a pH range of 4–8. Acidic formulations, for example adjusted with lactic acid to a pH of around 5, are therefore possible. The pH is adjusted with lactic acid only in the finished emulsion.

Suitable for products such as

  • Body fluids and milks in a sprayer – low oil content, fast absorption, a texture that can be sprayed.
  • Facial emulsions and hydrating fluids – light day emulsions for all skin types.
  • Hair serums and leave-in conditioner sprays – emulsified oils in liquid form without weighing the hair down.
  • Deodorants and antiperspirants in emulsion form – the emulsifier tolerates electrolytes and acidic pH.
  • Cleansing emulsions and impregnated wipes – a fluid emulsion with a low oil content for refreshing the skin.
  • Decorative cosmetics with a fluid emulsion base.

Good to know

Fluidifeel Easy is designed for fluid formulations. At a processing temperature of up to 40 °C, butters and waxes do not melt, so for thick creams and balms with a high content of solid fats, choose a hot-process emulsifier.

The concentrate is classified under the CLP Regulation, and you will find the pictograms GHS05 and GHS07 on the packaging. When handling the undiluted raw material, follow the safety data sheet, protect your eyes and skin, and do not inhale any aerosol.

An emulsion with a water phase requires a preservative system, and cold processing does not guarantee microbiological purity. Choose the preservative with regard to the pH of the formulation (4–8) and verify its compatibility in the finished product.

Fragrance and essential oils are added to the formulation together with the oil phase or at the end; the emulsifier is compatible with fragrance. With a higher proportion of alcohol or electrolytes, monitor the stability of the emulsion over time by testing it in heat and cold.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make a cold-process cream with Fluidifeel Easy emulsifier?
Yes, the emulsion forms at room temperature, up to 40 °C, without heating the phases. However, the result is a fluid to lightly creamy emulsion, and the thickness is determined by the added thickener (natural gum or synthetic polymer). It is not suitable for thick creams with butters and waxes that need to be melted.
What usage rate of Fluidifeel Easy emulsifier is needed?
The recommended rate is 1–3% of the finished formulation, and the manufacturer’s sample formulations use this entire range. We recommend verifying the ratio of emulsifier to oils on a test batch, especially with less common esters.
Is Fluidifeel Easy suitable for sprays?
Yes, it is designed specifically for sprayable emulsions. With a small amount of thickener, the emulsion stays fluid enough for a mechanical sprayer. In the manufacturer’s sample sprayable formulations, this means 0.4–0.5% polymer and a viscosity of approximately 300 to 3 300 mPa·s depending on the type of product.
Does Fluidifeel Easy tolerate salts, acidic pH and alcohol?
Yes, the emulsifier is nonionic and, according to the documentation, compatible with electrolytes, acidic and neutral pH, and alcohol. It works in a pH range of 4–8, so it also suits acidic formulations or deodorants with salt-based active ingredients. The stability of the thickener at a higher salt content must be verified separately.
What is the difference between Fluidifeel Easy and a hot-process emulsifier?
Fluidifeel Easy emulsifies without heating and creates fluid textures. Emulsifying waxes must be melted together with the oil phase in a hot process, and they themselves give the emulsion thickness and body. The choice depends on the texture you want: fluids and sprays cold, thick creams hot.
Does an emulsion made with Fluidifeel Easy need a preservative?
Yes, every emulsion with a water phase requires a preservative system. The preservative is added to the finished emulsion at room temperature, which is an advantage for heat-sensitive preservatives. Choose it according to the target pH of the formulation and verify compatibility in the finished product.
