Product description
The black glossy glass bottle with a capacity of 10 ml and a black and gold dropper is intended for products that are dispensed drop by drop and need protection from light: facial serums, oil concentrates, essential oil blends and tinctures. The opaque black glass shields the contents from light, which you will appreciate with ingredients sensitive to light and oxidation. The small volume suits concentrated products, samples and test batches, where a single dose is counted in drops.
The set consists of a pharmaceutical bottle with an 18/410 neck finish and a dropper whose length is matched to the height of the bottle. The glass tube of the dropper reaches almost to the bottom, so the contents can be taken out without much residue. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.
What it is suitable for
- Facial serums and oil concentrates – use the dropper to take a small amount and apply it to your palm or directly to the skin without touching the neck.
- Essential oil blends – the dark glass protects volatile components from light, and the glass tube of the dropper keeps the contents in contact with glass rather than plastic.
- Tinctures and alcohol-based products – glass does not react with alcohol, and the contents are dispensed precisely drop by drop.
- Samples, testers and travel packs – the volume is enough to try a new recipe or to use a serum for several weeks.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume, given in the parameters, is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the dropper tube, which pushes the level upwards once screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. For this reason, fill only up to the nominal volume. If you fill to the brim, the contents will overflow through the neck after the dropper is inserted.
It is difficult to fill a narrow neck from a larger container without spilling. For small batches, filling with a syringe or through a small funnel works well. For a larger number of pieces, weigh rather than estimate by eye, because you cannot see the level through black glass.
Good to know
- Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and let them dry completely. Rinse the dropper tube on the inside as well, because residual water would get into oil-based contents.
- Glass and heat – fill the bottle only with contents that have cooled down and do not expose it to sudden changes in temperature, as the glass may crack.
- Dropper and demanding contents – the tube of the dropper is made of glass, the other parts of silicone, plastic and aluminium. For concentrated essential oils and alcohol-based contents, we recommend checking how the bulb reacts during longer contact.
- Reuse – after washing and disinfection, the bottle can be filled again. Check that the bulb of the dropper has not hardened or cracked. If it has, replace it.
- Other closure – other closures with the same neck type also fit the 18/410 neck finish; you can find ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
- Recycling – glass belongs in glass recycling; the dropper is made of combined materials and must be separated from the bottle before disposal.
Store and transport the filled bottle upright. If the contents stand in the bulb of the dropper for a longer time, they may damage it, and if the bottle is tipped over, there is a risk of leakage through the dropper. Before shipping to customers, check the tightness on a test piece.
