Product description
A blue glass bottle with a glass dropper is ready-made packaging for face serums, active oils and tinctures, that is, for everything that is dispensed in drops and needs protection from light. Coloured glass reduces the amount of daylight and artificial light reaching the contents, which helps extend the stability of light-sensitive ingredients such as plant oils, essential oils, vitamins or plant extracts. The black and gold dropper gives the bottle a finished look that suits a retail counter as well as gift giving without any further modification.
The set consists of a glass medicine bottle with a nominal volume of 100 ml and a dropper whose length is matched to the height of this bottle. The dropper is made of a glass tube, a silicone bulb and a gold-coloured aluminium collar, and the thread with the seal is made of plastic.
Suitable uses
- Face and hair serums – both water-based and oil-based serums are dispensed precisely with the dropper, without spilling and without fingers touching the contents.
- Face and body oils – the 100 ml volume corresponds to a common pack size for face or beard oil; for body oils it is on the small side.
- Tinctures, macerated oils and alcohol extracts – glass does not react with alcohol or plant ingredients, and dispensing in drops is the usual approach for tinctures.
- Essential oil blends and perfume oils – blue glass protects the fragrant ingredients from light, and the dropper makes it easy to measure out a small amount.
- Active ingredient concentrates – diluted solutions that the customer adds to a cream or mask drop by drop.
Because of the drop-by-drop dispensing, the packaging is not suitable for thick creams, pastes or products with solid particles that would catch in the tube.
Volume and filling
Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. Total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck, and you can find it in the parameters. The difference between the two values forms a reserve for the dropper tube, which takes up part of the space, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. For this reason, fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the bottle were filled up to the neck, the contents would be pushed out through the thread when the dropper is inserted and the packaging would not seal.
Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the tube or in the thread could dilute an anhydrous product and cause cloudiness in oils.
How to use the set
After filling, screw the dropper onto the 18/410 neck finish, which both components share. A plastic seal in the upper part of the dropper ensures a tight closure, and hand-tightening is enough. To dispense, squeeze the silicone bulb, immerse the tube in the contents and release the bulb so that it draws up the liquid. The amount drawn up depends on the viscosity: light serums and tinctures flow quickly, while thicker oils are drawn up more slowly and the drops are larger.
For oil-based and alcohol-based contents, we recommend storing the bottle upright. In a bottle lying on its side, the liquid comes into contact with the silicone bulb, which is not designed for long-term soaking in essential oils or concentrated alcohol. After each use, return the contents of the tube to the bottle so that the tube remains empty.
Glass tolerates sudden temperature changes poorly. Let a hot mixture cool to approximately room temperature before filling, and do not wash the bottle alternately with hot and cold water.
Good to know
Both components of the set are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The set is not declared for contact with food, so it is not suitable for homemade oils, syrups or herbal extracts intended for consumption.
After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. Glass does not absorb the scent or colour of its previous contents, but the silicone bulb of the dropper may soften over time or take on the scent of essential oils. When changing the product, it is advisable to replace the dropper as well, especially if the new contents should not carry the original scent.
If you want to use the bottle with a different closure, choose from closures for the same neck type. You can find other ready-made bottle and closure combinations in the Handymade range. With your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
The glass bottle belongs in glass recycling. The dropper is made of several materials, so separate the glass tube from the plastic thread and the silicone bulb before disposal.
