Product description
The 10 ml glass bottle with dropper is used for precise drop-by-drop dispensing. The blue glass filters out some of the light reaching the contents, which you will appreciate especially with oil serums, essential oil blends and tinctures, where a small amount is used at a time. The set consists of a medicine bottle with an 18/410 neck finish and a black and gold dropper whose length is matched to this bottle, so there is nothing else to buy or combine.
The 10 ml volume suits ingredients that are dispensed by the drop and used up slowly, as well as travel sizes. The bottle and the dropper are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and the set is intended for cosmetics. It is not declared for food contact.
What it is suitable for
- Oil serums and face oils – the dropper dispenses a few drops into the palm without tilting the bottle and without the risk of spilling.
- Essential oil blends – the small volume and dark glass suit concentrated fragrance blends that are added to cosmetics or a diffuser by the drop.
- Nail and cuticle oils – precise application of a small amount directly onto the nail bed.
- Samples and testers – 10 ml is enough to try out a formulation before making a larger batch, for you and for your customer.
- Tinctures and extracts – drop-by-drop dispensing of alcohol-based or glycerine extracts into finished products.
How the set works
The bottle has the shape of a medicine bottle with a narrow neck, which holds the dropper firmly in the thread. The dropper combines a glass tube, which is in direct contact with the contents, with a silicone bulb, a plastic (PP) thread and a gold-coloured aluminium ring. The black and gold combination stands out against the dark blue glass and suits products with a darker visual identity.
Squeezing the bulb fills the tube, and releasing it dispenses the contents drop by drop. The size of the drop depends on the viscosity of the filling. Thin oils and alcohol tinctures drip quickly and in small drops, while thicker serums drip more slowly and in larger drops. With thick products, check that they can be drawn up and dispensed comfortably.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for in normal filling, here 10 ml. The brimful capacity is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between them is a reserve for the dropper tube, which displaces part of the contents once screwed in, and for the expansion of the filling when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim.
When filling, leave free space in the neck for the dropper tube. A bottle filled to the brim will overflow when the dropper is screwed in, and the contents will get into the thread, where they stick and make opening difficult.
Good to know
Before first filling, wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely so that no residual water gets into the filling.
Do not pour hot contents into a cold bottle. Let them cool to at least lukewarm. With water-based products and emulsions, screw on the dropper only after the contents have cooled completely, so that steam does not condense under it.
The silicone bulb is the most sensitive part of the set. Concentrated essential oils and solvents may soften or discolour it with long-term direct contact, so store the bottle upright so that the contents do not stand in the bulb. With essential oil blends, squeeze the bulb only above the liquid level and draw up just the amount you need.
After dispensing, let the dropper tube drain back into the bottle and only then screw it on. Oil residues in the thread become sticky over time and, with hair or face oils, leave marks on the neck.
The set can be used repeatedly. Wash the bottle in warm water with washing-up liquid, rinse the dropper with water and then with alcohol, and leave the bulb to dry without squeezing it. Glass belongs in the glass recycling bin. The dropper is made of several materials, so before recycling separate the glass tube from the plastic and metal parts.
You will find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations for this bottle in the Handymade range. If you build your own combination, check the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
