Product description

The green glass bottle with a capacity of 10 ml and a silver dropper is used for filling small amounts of liquid preparations that are measured out by the drop. Coloured glass filters out some of the light, so it suits blends of essential oils, face and oil serums or alcohol-based preparations that are harmed by light during storage. The bottle and dropper have the same neck type and are sold as a ready-made pair, so you do not need to choose the closure separately.

The dropper has a glossy silver cap with an aluminium shell, a squeezable silicone bulb and a glass tube that reaches almost to the bottom of the bottle once screwed on. The contents are therefore dispensed precisely and without spilling. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What it is suitable for

  • Essential oil blends – the small volume and dispensing drop by drop match how essential oils are normally used, that is, a few drops at a time in a carrier oil, a diffuser or a bath.
  • Face and oil serums – concentrated preparations with active ingredients, of which only a few drops are applied.
  • Oil for cuticles, beard or hair ends – thin oils and precise application to a small area.
  • Alcohol-based preparations – neither the glass of the bottle nor the glass tube of the dropper reacts with alcohol, so it also suits perfume concentrates in alcohol.
  • Samples and test batches – 10 ml is enough to check a recipe or to make a sample for a customer.

Filling and dispensing

The bottle has a nominal volume of 10 ml. The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is intended for under normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is larger. The difference between them forms a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper, which displaces part of the volume once screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes.

Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents are pushed into the thread when the dropper is screwed on, and the closure then does not seal.

A small funnel or a syringe without a needle will help with filling. Keep the neck clean and dry, as dried oil in the thread impairs the seal. The size of a drop depends on the density and surface tension of the contents, and thick oils fall from the tube more slowly than alcohol solutions. The dropper is not intended for creams, gels and thick emulsions, as the bulb will not draw them up.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Rinse the dropper with ethanol and leave it to drain with the tube pointing down. Pour in the contents only once they have cooled, as glass does not tolerate a sudden difference in temperature well.

The bottle can be reused. Residues of the scent of the previous contents cling to the silicone bulb rather than to the glass, so when you change the contents, rinse the dropper thoroughly or replace it. For long-term storage of undiluted essential oils, we recommend checking how the closure behaves in your specific recipe, as the contents briefly touch the silicone and plastic parts when drawn up.

The set is intended for cosmetics. Neither the bottle nor the dropper has a food-contact certificate, so do not use it for edible oils, syrups or herbal infusions intended for consumption.

You can find other closures with the same neck type in the Handymade range. If you combine parts yourself, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your specific formulation. The bottle belongs in glass recycling, and the dropper is made of several materials, so separate it from the bottle before recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Does the green glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Partly, yes. Green glass filters out some of the light and suits preparations that need more protection than a clear bottle gives. However, the colour of the glass only reduces the effect of light and does not remove it completely. Store the bottle away from direct sunlight, ideally in a closed cabinet or drawer.
How much can you actually fit into the 10 ml bottle with a dropper?
It is filled up to the nominal volume of 10 ml. The brimful volume is larger, but that space is a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper and for the expansion of the contents during warmer storage. If you fill up to the neck, part of the contents is pushed into the thread when the dropper is screwed on, and the closure stops sealing.
Is the glass bottle with a dropper suitable for essential oils and alcohol-based preparations?
Yes, neither the glass of the bottle nor the glass tube of the dropper reacts with essential oils or alcohol. The contents briefly touch the silicone bulb and the plastic parts of the closure when drawn up, so for long-term storage of undiluted essential oils we recommend checking how the dropper behaves in your specific blend and checking the bulb regularly.
Can the glass bottle with a dropper be reused?
Yes, the glass can be washed and disinfected with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol without limitation. Rinse the dropper with ethanol and leave it to dry with the tube pointing down. The scent of the previous contents may remain in the silicone bulb, so when switching from essential oils to another type of preparation, it is better to replace the closure with a new one.
Can you dispense a cream, gel or thick serum with the dropper?
No, the dropper is intended for liquid preparations with low viscosity, such as oils, alcohol solutions and water-based serums. The bulb will not draw up thick gels and emulsions, or they will not come out of the tube. A jar or a bottle with a pump is more suitable for such formulations.
