Product description

The glass dropper bottle, 10 ml, is a ready-made combination of a black glossy vial and a black-silver dropper, designed for precise dispensing of small volumes. It is particularly suitable for facial serums, facial oils, essential oil blends and samples applied drop by drop. The opaque black glass protects the contents from light, which is appreciated with oils and active ingredients sensitive to oxidation. The dark glossy surface gives the product a uniform, clean appearance without any further treatment.

The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The food-contact certificate applies to the glass bottle alone; the complete set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

Why choose this combination

  • Light protection – black glass does not let light through, so oils, vitamin-based serums and essential oil blends retain their scent and efficacy for longer.
  • Precise dispensing – the dropper measures individual drops, which is practical with concentrated serums and facial oils where only a few drops are applied at a time.
  • Hygienic application – the contents are neither poured out nor touched with fingers. The dropper takes only the required amount and the rest remains in the sealed bottle.
  • Proven combination – the bottle and dropper share the same neck type, the closure seats firmly and the dropper length matches the bottle height, reaching almost to the bottom to draw out the last drops.
  • Glass with no interaction with the contents – the glass bottle and the glass tube of the dropper are also suitable for essential oils and alcohol-based contents that some plastics might degrade over time.

What the set is suitable for

A 10 ml volume is suitable where the product is used drop by drop and consumed in small amounts. Typical uses:

  • facial and eye serums – concentrated water-based and oil-based serums where 2–4 drops are used per application;
  • facial oils and oil blends – blends of vegetable oils with vitamin E or other soluble active ingredients that benefit from light protection;
  • essential oil blends – aromatherapy and perfume blends for dilution in a carrier oil, where precise drop-by-drop dispensing is essential;
  • nail and cuticle oils, beard oils – small volumes for precise application to a specific area;
  • samples and test batches – during formula development, a 10 ml bottle holds enough for several weeks of testing.

With thin aqueous solutions without a thickener the dropper also works, but the drops are smaller and fall faster than with oils. Thicker serums with a gel consistency are drawn up more slowly, and at higher viscosities the dropper may become impractical.

How to work with the set

The dropper consists of a silicone bulb, a silver threaded collar and a glass tube. The bulb is squeezed, the tube is submerged in the contents and releasing the bulb draws the liquid up. Gentle squeezing then dispenses drops one by one. After use, the dropper is screwed back on to seal the bottle.

Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. When the dropper is screwed on, the tube displaces some of the contents upward, and without headspace the product would enter the thread or the closure would not seal properly.

Nominal volume is the volume the container is designed for in normal filling and the figure stated on the label. Total volume to the brim is the physical capacity of the bottle up to the neck. The difference between them is the headspace for the dropper tube and for expansion of the contents with temperature change. Both values can be found in the product specifications.

Before first filling, we recommend washing both the bottle and dropper, rinsing with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allowing to dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based product can promote microbial growth, especially if the formula contains no preservative. With water-based serums that include a preservative, a clean container is equally important, because the dropper contacts the skin and air with every use.

What is good to know

  • Metal collar and essential oils – the dropper thread is metal with a plastic inner part. With highly concentrated essential oil blends, such as citrus-based ones, it is advisable to test before a larger run whether the contents reach the thread and affect the plastic.
  • Black glass and content inspection – opaque glass does not show the fill level or any possible haze or sediment. During formula development, stability is easier to assess in a clear bottle; black glass is used for the finished product.
  • Glossy surface and label – a self-adhesive label adheres well to smooth glossy glass. With a transparent label, bear in mind that only light-coloured text will be legible against a black background.
  • Reuse – the glass bottle can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. Check the silicone dropper bulb to ensure it has not become soft or tacky following contact with essential oils.
  • Glass and heat – the bottle is not intended for sudden temperature changes or for filling with a hot oil phase directly from the heat source. Allow the contents to cool before filling.
  • Recycling – the bottle belongs in the glass recycling bin. The dropper is a composite product of metal, glass, silicone and plastic; it should be separated from the bottle before disposal.

After being returned to the bottle, the dropper tube touches the contents and transfers everything it has been in contact with. When applying to the face, dispense into the palm or onto fingers rather than directly from the tube onto the skin, to prevent contaminants from being carried back into the bottle.

Further closures with the same neck type and other ready-made sets are available in the Handymade range. When assembling your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal and closure behaviour with the specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the black glass dropper bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the opaque black glass does not transmit light, so the contents are not exposed to light-accelerated oxidation. This is an advantage for vegetable oils, serums containing vitamin C or E, and essential oil blends. Light protection does not replace a preservative or antioxidant in the formula; it only slows one of the factors that degrade the product.
Is the 10 ml glass dropper bottle suitable for essential oils?
Yes, both the glass bottle and the glass tube of the dropper are suitable for essential oils and their blends with a carrier oil. The silicone bulb and the plastic part of the collar do not normally come into direct contact with the contents. With concentrated blends, however, it is advisable to verify that the oil does not reach the thread and does not alter the properties of the bulb. Store the bottle upright.
How much does the 10 ml dropper bottle actually hold?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 10 ml, not to the brim. The total capacity to the brim is greater, and the difference provides headspace for the glass dropper tube, which displaces some of the contents upward when screwed on, and for expansion with heat. Overfilling would cause product to be forced into the thread and the dropper would not seal.
Is the 10 ml dropper bottle set suitable for food use?
No, the complete set is intended for cosmetics. The food-contact certificate applies to the glass bottle alone; the dropper does not hold one, so the complete combination is not declared for food use. For cosmetic serums, facial oils and essential oil blends the set is suitable. Suitability for contact with cosmetics is confirmed for both the bottle and the dropper.
Can the glass dropper bottle be reused?
Yes, both the bottle and the dropper can be reused after thorough washing, disinfection with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and complete drying. Before refilling, check the silicone bulb for softening or tackiness and the glass tube for cracks. Residues of the previous product, particularly oil-based ones, must be removed completely; otherwise the new contents may deteriorate more quickly.
Does the dropper work with a water-based serum or only with oils?
Yes, the dropper dispenses thin aqueous solutions as well, but the drops are smaller and fall faster than with oil. With water-based serums of lower viscosity it is worth counting drops rather than estimating volume. Thicker gel serums are drawn into the tube slowly, and beyond a certain viscosity a pump or jar becomes more practical.
