Product description

Chamomile CO₂-to extract is a highly concentrated integral extract obtained by gentle supercritical CO₂ extraction from the dried flowers of Chamomilla recutita. This method preserves a broader spectrum of bioactive constituents than steam distillation and provides an extract with high potency, purity and stability. It is valued in cosmetics for its soothing and anti-inflammatory effects, particularly suitable for sensitive and irritated skin.

Composition: 7-17 % essential oil; α-bisabolol 20-45 %, bisabolol oxides 5-20 %, matricin 0,5-2,5 % (analysis via chamazulene); also farnesene, chamazulene, cis- and trans-en-yn-dicycloether, spatu lenol, traces of herniarin, natural fats and waxes. Appearance: greenish-brown liquid with a delicate chamomile aroma. Made without carrier oils and excipients.

Raw material/extract ratio: 20 - 33 kg of plant (dried flowers) to produce 1 kg of CO2 extract

Key benefits:

  • Soothes and relieves redness - suitable for sensitive, irritated or reactive skin.
  • Anti-inflammatory action - due to α-bisabolol, chamazulene and matricin.
  • Antioxidant protection - promotes skin regeneration and comfort.
  • Gentle CO₂ extraction - no organic solvent residues; pure ingredient profile.

Suitable for products such as:

  • Skin and body creams, soothing serums and emulsions.
  • Balms and ointments for dry or reactive skin (including after-sun care).
  • Products for sensitive children's skin (at low dosage).
  • Hair care for sensitive scalp.

Use in formulation:

  • Solubility: lipophilic (soluble in oils and fats); to aqueous phase only via emulsifier/solubilizer.
  • Recommended dosage: 0.1-1% (lower dosages for daily products, higher dosages for balms and targeted care).
  • Incorporation: into the oil phase at low temperature (to protect sensitive ingredients).

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between CO₂-se (selective) and CO₂-to (integral) extract?
CO₂-se (select) is a selective extract with a predominance of volatile components (similar to essential oil). CO₂-to (total/integral) is an integral extract - it contains non-volatile bioactives (e.g. matricin, waxes, phytosterols) in addition to the volatile components and therefore has a broader spectrum of action and higher dermal potency.

Why is the extract greenish brown and not blue?
Steam distillation converts matricin to blue chamazulene; in CO₂ extraction, this conversion is minimized, so the extract is typically greenish brown in hue.

What type of skin is the extract best suited for?
For sensitive, reactive, red or irritated skin (shaving, sun, mechanical intervention).

Is it suitable for children's cosmetics?
Yes, at low doses (e.g. 0.1-0.3%) and in gentle formulations.

What is the recommended concentration in products?
Usually 0.1-1% depending on the type of product and the desired effect; for balms and ointments rather the upper limit.

Chamomile CO₂-to extract brings concentrated soothing, protection and regeneration to cosmetics with a pure ingredient profile thanks to its gentle CO₂ technology.
